Post subject:  Tightarse "Cooper S" air box - IDEA'S!!!
Well I was thinking about what I can do in regards to the air filters on my 1275 LS (it's running twin HS2's off a Cooper S). Its currently got a pair of ramflows, which i'm not a fan of, as one of the inserts has shrunk.

I was thinking going a Cooper S air box, but they are $$$, which I can't afford (unless I can find a cheapish one). But how bout get get 2 single air boxes off early Mini's (the steel HS2 style), and mod em to look like a Cooper S one. It wouldn't quite look the same, but hell, it would be close and do the same job!

Just need to get 2 old ones and start playing around!!! :lol:

I have bought some twin carb sets over the years that have had two standard filters instead of the Cooper filter.

Remember that the elbows on the carbs are different on the mini and the Cooper. :wink:

Different effecting air flow, or just a Cooper S box wont fit on carbs with standard single elbows?

The "S" filter will not fit, or it will sit on a funny angle. 8)

Go for the pov filter!

I was going to make my own filter out of a couple of bits of sheet metal and a Falcon air filter (XB-XE oval shaped one) You just need a bottom plate with two big holes for the carbys and a top plate with two little holes for the wingnuts.

Lynx filter pads do shrink. I'd buy some Unifilter pads for them. Go to www.unifilter.com.au and download the catalog pdf. They are on p15.

The Weber ones (400 series) are $7 each, the SU ones (300 series) are probably cheaper.
These pads are the same as the old Finer Filter ones which I've used for years. They come pre-oiled too. :wink:

I'm running with two ramtubes and pod/sock filters.
More than happy and easier to clean. :D

I agree with Morris 1100, I've seen an XD falcon element used on twin SU's, just need some basic metalworking tools,skills and a sheet of aluminium and you're done

If you want the ultimate in filters for twin HS2s then do I have the deal for you! When I bought my car the air filter was cut out of a street sign with an oval element sandwiched in between. Damn sexy if you ask me.

In all honesty one of my favourite filters are the Redline chrome ones, cheap (~$45 each) with paper elements so that it actually filters pretty well, and they look cool too. In standard form you can't fit ram tubes in the current ones, I just got an old borg warner SU filter (which uses clips instead of a bolt to hold it all on) and fitted my ram tube inside that. Replacement elements are cheaper than standard Mini elements.
