While i have to pull the motor out (see http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13357) i thought why not get a cam and put it in.

Would it be worth putting a cam into a 998 with extractors and an 1.5" su? if so what kind of cam best suits my setup. Oh and i need a new needle anyway so thats not an issue

I have used a 731cam and enjoyed it but I do prefer the RE13

731 wasn't a bad cam but it had bugger-all lift. If you are gonna run one in a big block, get some 1.5 rockers to go with it...
Gotta be cheaper to just buy a cam with some decent lift, there are plenty out there. Like an RE-13, which I've had 2 of so far. 8)

SW5 for a small bore engine. they work really well in everything but i also have a re13 in at the moment and was beaten at the drags by a smaller engine with an J002 cam (from me) which kinda upset me a bit.
but he did go on to in the drag racing and i also got a 3rd place with the same type of cam in a different motor.
I got 4th for the drags.
by the way all of these are raod driving cars being driven everyday and are very economical on the fual and pass emissions testslike its running on fresh air.

RE-13 seems to be a perfect choice...

How about something like a 997 grind? Give a bit extra power but still very tractable and shouldn't hurt fuel economy too much. Even just slotting in a 1098 cam would be an improvement and they aren't exactly uncommon.

Always thought the MG Metro cam (the one that is 997 spec on inlet duration but 731 on exhaust, at least i think thats it) would be nice to try but its not like you can get them easily in oz.

An RE282 (the 1st one in a big block) is going into the 1360 this weekend... 8)
Supposed to beat the RE13, we'll see.
