Post subject: | Suicide Doors on a Mini |
I just took the doors of my mini and was looking at how they mount on there. I was thinking, Suicide Doors would just be a matter of moving the hinges to the other side of the door and then probably reversing the positioning of the lock/latch/keyhole. has anyone ever tried this before??? |

Have seen it done in English Mag's , in theory it's not too difficult but you would have to do a lot of serious strengthening to the B pillar where you are going to mount the hinges . I'm not sure how easy it would be to get engineered either , talk to an engineer first and see what they'd want done to pass it . |

Would look stupid with external hinges IMO. Maybe try it with Rover internal hinges? Leave the external hinges on the front for a stealth look ![]() |

Leave the external hinges on the front for a stealth look that would look sweet, and leave the lock at the front with those electrc door openers, the ones where u push the button like in smoothed hot rods!! mega confusing ![]() |

I originally thought about suicide doors, but after looking around at a some cars with them decided that they were more suited to New Skool Cars where as Suicide doors look better on Old Skool Cars IMHO eitherway... here is what i think about each time Suicide Doors Pros: Look Cool on Older Cars Cons: Need to reinforce the B-Pillar Need to move locking mechanism to otherside of the door. Need to get engineered Sicissor Doors (Lambo Style) Pros: Mount onto the A-Pillar Lock does not need to be moved Less modifications thus easier to pass engineering (maybe?) Cons: Suicide door would look better on the mini ![]() So yeah... its a tough decision. I will ring VicRoads tomorrow to see what there policy is on door modifications, and then report back what i find out |

I think it would require more work for the lambo doors... Ok either way its gonna require alot of work, i have been looking for some hinges for weeks, for an internal hinge suicide door.. Its not easy when its not a big market down here.. That and there isnt much width for a hinge on the mini doors or pillars. And with the lambo doors you would have to design a hinge to firstly pop out a little then rise upwards.. Obviously it couldnt just straight swing upwards |

Don't the kits do that? They're retro fits and all normal car doors have to move out, so I think they do. Incidentally, the other day I saw a Bini convertible pull out of its garage, and there, side on and only just fitting with an inch either end, was a beautiful Bambina with the early suicide doors. Not for sale, but fantastic. |

There is a schmick yellow convertible one up the street near my place too. Cool cars. ![]() ![]() |

Id say the lambo hinge kits would pop out then up, but getting one that will fit a mini would be the hardest part.. |
