Ahh the faithfull mini.......

Hows this for a good couple of days.
Spent the last three days working out how to get my new steering rack in.
Finnished today.
Wack it all back together drive out the drive. Turn around and pull back in.
NOT RIGHT!!!!!
Wiggle this, wiggle that...
what the....
The ball joints are *%$#ed.
ok crack those to take some shims out.
Then the drive shafts fall out the diff.
Not nicely of course they have to split the diff boots as they do dont they...... and all the little balls fall on the floor.
oh crap.
Now tomorow i have to get new balljoints (there aren't any shims left in one side), Diff boots and cv boots (might as well while i'm there). Drop the whole hub assy off and change it all. While i'm helping a friend move and before sunday so that i can go to the bay for the mini meet.
Then i have to hope it don't rain cos the wippers shat themselves the other day........... Why Oh Why do these things have to happen all at once?

Anyone know any good calming mantras?

"ooohhhmmm..... ooohhhmmm.... its ok once its done its done and you wont have to do it again, for a while....ooohhhmmm, ooohhhmmm...."

"ooohhhmmm..... ooohhhmmm.... its ok once its done its done and you wont have to do it again, for a while....ooohhhmmm, ooohhhmmm...."

"ooohhhmmm..... ooohhhmmm.... its ok once its done its done and you wont have to do it again, for a while....ooohhhmmm, ooohhhmmm...."

Nope not working......

Nah, Bugga it, sit down with a nice cold can of Jim beam & let the mini just sit there all broken & lonely so it can think about it`s actions, :-)

I'm with you Matt , grab a drink , sit back , glare at the mini , enjoy the drink , have another and then leave the mini to think about it's actions while you go to the house , and have another drink ..... Mini problems never seem as bad the next morning .

Bad language and tool throwing works for me. And also now knowing I don't have to fix the problem NOW so I can drive to work on Monday.

Minis have to be the most ungrateful cars! You do the right thing and spend big bucks and time fixing a problem properly. Then they just sock you in the goolies with another problem. If it was any other car, I'd probably burn it! :(

Mine is not even registered yet so it does not get driven much.
It is costing me a fortune now and I hate to think what it will be like when on the road.
So why do minis get away with this behaviour.
Come on tell me!

Because they are something like a drug and once you're hooked there just is no hope ..... It can't be explained really .

At the moment, once registered and re-sprayed I feel it would be quite easy to cut my losses and get rid of of it, so may be I am not addicted.
I am hoping the addiction comes from the driving, something I have yet to experience in reasonable quantity.

But i've finnished all that moving of people crap and now i can go get dirty again.
Deap breath... ok. its just a balljoint and a boot or two, so eh s'all good. (trying the "it don't seem as bad the next day" theory)

Steering rack is in... top balljoints are changed, tie rod ends are changed, cv boots are changed, diff pot boots are changed, nolathane bushes on all steering componants.......
Still got %&^$#ing play in the left front.... top of the wheel in and out and rear of the wheel in and out.
I've only got the bottom balljoints, wheel baring's and cv's left to try.... all i wanted to do was fit some new leads on her last tuesday.... Dont ask how i got to a complete steering overhaul.
