How big's your budget and how far do you want to go ? Let's say moderate to both and I'll suggest the safer hotups for the time being . Mainly improve the fuel/air into the motor (bigger or twin carbs , a good manifold and open the inlet ports to the same size as your manifold or gasket , whichever's bigger) , improve combustion (open the combustion chambers of the cylinder head , read David Vizard's books and grab a die grinder and have some fun on a cheap head to start with , and shave the head a little to improve the compression ratio) , extractors and exhaust porting similar to inlet ports . If the motor happens to be out at the time also put a better cam in , just don't go too wild yet , talk to a mini specialist about the "best" cam for what you're after . Try fairly basic mod's like this to start with and see what you think of the performance , there's a whole world of mini power options available right up to supercharging , turbocharging and nitrous injection like most other engines but I'd say start off small and do the mod's you can do yourself with a little bit of reading . ALso , get a hold of a set of disc brakes (not easy or cheap but worth it) before you go and get too much power out of the 1100 , mini drums in good condition are good but under heavy use discs are better . |

Discs? What you want to do is go back to drums, then you'll realise how fast you're going when you can't stop! ![]() Look around, youmight find a 1275 cheaper the cost of mods to the 1100. |

Or , since you've already got the 1100 and it's running you might as well have some fun with it until it's completely rooted and then fit a 1275 . Have a chat to a mini tuner and find what cam they'd reccomend . personally I like the old 731 cam , only know it as 731 , I think that's an abreviation from a BMC special tuning parts number but not sure , it was a fast road/semi race cam and good fun . I'd imagine though that there are a lot better cams now with even better performance over a broader rev range . Pull the head off and work it according to Vizards books , or just get a bigger head . Not sure but I think a standard 1275 head will fit without the valves hitting the bores , don't think you can go any bigger though . If you get a 1275 head then you can use it later if you get a 1275 ..... Perhaps also look at twin 1 1/4" su's or even a webber or similar to get more fuel/air in . |

Well , maybe have fun with it while it's going well , get another 1100 motor and work it further and get it ready to go in when the current one fails , or a 1275 if you happen to come accross one . The 1100 is a good motor and has a lot of potential . |
