hey crew,

i am starting to suss out my turbo motor, piece by piece as i can afford it!

i have stripped the head down to pieces, im up to the next step.

im not sure who ill use in adelaide to do my head work.

and what sort of money should i be expecting?

what rockers?

valve springs?(2 were broken when i stripped it)

what valves? (i was told morris 1100 valves ?doc)

etc etc, i dont have a dremel so was thinking of just paying someone to port my chambers? silly idea? expensive?

it will be hopefully for a race car/ vary rarely road use engine.

tell em what you know?

thanks jamie :D

Race / occasional road eh?

I don't know anyone in SA so can't give any recommendations there.
It's not a bad idea to give it to someone with the tools & know how, but on a turbo motor it is more important to dish the combustion chamber out to get the right compresion ratio than it is to port & polish (but both is nice).

You are getting hardened inserts for the seats? Bronze guides?
Inconnel exhaust valves if you're going for high boost, but $$$
Otherwise an experienced builder will grind the valves to give more seat area for more cooling on the exhaust valves.
Turbo size & compression ratio will have a bearing on spring choice - there is no point in double valve springs in low rpm torque monster.
This is a 1098 based motor, right?

Speak to Ben Afford about your requirements.
He's definitely in the know - especially with his very quick turbo improved-production Mini.

I'm not sure if they do much with modification, I assume they do, but a good head place I found is called TW Engineering at St Agnes. I recently got a Cooper S head rebuilt by them and they were well priced I thought. They were slow though, but affordable.

He did mention he used to do a lot of MG heads so is probably pretty good at this, give them a call anyways.
