Can anybody tell me specs of a standard 1098 camshaft (or MkI Cooper S I think they're the same)? I know 998 camshaft isn't so good but I can't find info on what my 1098 cam is (or might be - not sure if the cam is original spec or not). Cheers, Anto. |

Sorry Christoph just pointed out it's in the BMC manual. 5/45-51/21 that equates to 230/252 duration - not *that* good! The Camtech 620 is 260/252 so that should be an improvement over my current cam. Anto. |

Timing is 5-45 inlet/51-21 exhaust, valve lift .318" approx. Inlet duration 230*, exhaust 252*. Regrind the sucker if you want it to GO! ![]() Something around 270* duration goes nice in a modified 1098. Bobtel's 1152 flies now, it's got a Russell Engineering:RE-13 cam like mine. But it's got a bit more than 270*...wink: Anto wrote: Sorry Christoph just pointed out it's in the BMC manual. 5/45-51/21 that equates to 230/252 duration - not *that* good! Anto. Be careful with Camtech cams. Very pointy lobes...I had a #619 (VP3) it wore the lobes down halfway in 40,000 miles.. ![]() |

I'm thinking if I do port the 202 (when I get some money!) I may aswell get an RE-13, if I'm going to bother - go the whole way in the first place ![]() The camtech is second hand too - if you are right then it could be pretty worn as it is. |

If it's not worn bad you maybe can get it reprofiled. The one in my car now was an S, then a Bert Jones, then a 731, now it's an RE-13... ![]() Heh if it wears I got a virgin ground one.. ![]() Graham's cams all have a nice big lobe radius.. |

My cam had been ground at least once before i got camtech to put a VP3 grind on it, like kevs, and like kevs mine chopped its lobed of pretty badly, luckyily??? i snapped the crank after about 30 od thousand KM's? due to a dodgy grind and detected the problem (or graham did) The point im trying to get to being he was still able to grind his RE-13 onto my cam..... So theres every chance he will be able to put another grind on it ![]() G |

Bobtel is now running an RE-13 in his bored 1098, with twin HS4s etc it kicks ass (or is that arse?).. anyway it flies! ![]() kazjim has one too (with modified LCA) in his turbo 998. It truly is a cam for all seasons.. ![]() |

![]() Heh if it wears I got a virgin ground one.. ![]() Graham's cams all have a nice big lobe radius.. That CAM is probably very confused!! I wonder if it hankers sometimes for the days when it was a brand new S?? ![]() ![]() |

He had run it in his Cooper, and it had one badly worn lobe. I got Bert Jones to grind a `master' (like a template) from it, and then regrind onto an S cam. Fast forward to 1980- I bought a `68 Cooper S that had a Bert Jones cam, it was a POS grind. So I got Bert to find my master and put a 731 grind on this cam. A few years back I needed more grunt when I started running my red car, so I fitted the Camtech 619 (VP3) one in. When it wore out I pulled this one out of my stash and got Graham Russell to grind it again, to an RE-13. ![]() BTW the duration on this cam is around 277* inlet/286* exhaust. |
