If I wanted to add a screw type supercharger (not Rootes or Eaton) to an A-series. 1. What block/capacity is best suited to a middling compression increase? I am after torque and comfortable 120km/h cruise in a van not 12000hp at 350000rpm. I want about 100hp (66kw) at the wheels at about 4000rpm 2. As the SU suck and dont like being blown ( ![]() This is not for the Moke, but for someting else I am thinking of. The reason for supercharger instead of turbo? No lag and power through the rev range. |

Thanks that helps alot. When I read this before I noticed everybody is using Rootes type blowers. Has anybody done with a scroll type blower, like a Sprintex? |

Stephen , the shot's below are of a mates previous mini , the middle shot of the engine bay show's the middle incarnation of it's development using a sprintex supercharger . This was later changed to a bigger turbo for better power again . This mini was predominantly used for hillclimbs and drags so changing to the bigger turbo's probably not for the reasons you were after but more for raw power . Zac's current mini (below further) uses a Toyota's supercharger like most other conversions use . WHen you're getting organised with the next project let me know and I'll give you Zac's contact details . ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The reason most use the toyota / roots type is that they are cheap (few hundred dollars compared to a thousand) and work well for moderate power gain in the region of 100hp at wheels I have found standard 8.8:1compression on a 1275 with about 8psi of boost works well using a suck through SU set up . If you blow through a positive displacement supercharger setup you have to vent off boost when the throttle is closed even at idle. |

SU carb's work well with a supercharged setup. Is ANYONE getting 100HP atw @ 4000rpm? that's an awfully low rpm for that amount of power. Being a supercharger i would thing power is developed linear and much higher up ion the rev range? |

Being a supercharger i would thing power is developed linear and much higher up ion the rev range?" Thats why I asked about FI. If I use a single throttle body and two injectors into an inlet manifold I can then play with power@revs. The power is only linear to the standard delivery. So if a A-series runs out of puff at 5500 a blown should as well. Assuming no additional breathing, outlet, cam changes. I wan the power that low because thats the way I drive. Having all the power top end doesnt make for a good freeway cruiser. I worked out that 100atw/4000 would give me max torque at the speed limit. Great for hills. And the power to weight ration would be the same as my current drive at that speed. If a wastegated/intercooled setup gives me the power so be it. |

Your going to struggle either way you look at it to get such a small engine to produce that amount of power at 4000rpm. Good luck to you though. At our dynoday, the most power we got out of an A-series was 80odd atw and it's produce well up in the range at ~7000odd Most turbo setups i've seen, say metro turbo making 150HP...at 4000rpm isn't doing anywhere near 100HP atw.. |

here is my old supercharged engine, sorry i dont have any other pics, engine was sold 6 yrs ago and i only have paper pics which are ??? i wish i knew. anyway it was a barry eaten blower and i ran a belt of the waterpump, 10 PSI into a 1310 with a special grind cam, i used a jag 2"su carb and had 3/8 fuel line, it was putting 130 HP when we dynoed it at thornliegh on the old super 100 oct pump gas.[ img]http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f389/cobrajet428/oldpics264.jpg[/img] ![]() |

![]() all fitted under the round nose hood, had used some low compression forged mahle pistons and 3 head gaskets( standard brass in the middle and standard) never had any problem in the engine just Cvs and tyres |

Don't know , I never saw the magazine . According to Zac and a few other's the story was crap and the pics average so I didn't bother . It's still having little bits and pieces done in the regards to tuning and upgrading and after things break (broke a blower belt a year ago and it tore a small chunk off the bonnet ...) but still pretty much the same . |
