i went and had a look at a clubman, not sure what year mod cause the owner wasnt there but his mum was nice enough to let us have a look , found the car sitting in about 2ft high of grass, compleat car, 1100cc, and a heap of parts for it for $400, in the shell there's a fair bit of rust mostly surface rust (couldnt see the floor pannels) but in the roof seam there's a lot of rust thats in the seam its self roughly 15-18 inches long at the longest part, just wondering if this is hard to fix cause its almost at the roof pannel

one of the guys at work put me on to it but he's lookin at it to so i'll let him go first and decide if he wants it

New roof sills will be alot of trouble as you need to then weld them! not only that, if the sill is rusty, I'd be wondering about the condtion of the supports, and inner panels of the roof under the lining etc... all this will quickly add to the $400...

Worste place for rust-
Sills
Battery Box and boot
Front floor pan
Rear Seat pockets

Pretty much, if Rear seat pockets and sills are in good nick you can bet that the rest of the car will be in good nick.

If I were you, just by the sounds of it, pass on this one and keep looking... I'd rather spend $2000 on a good condition car than $400 on a rust bucket. You should be able to pick up a rego'able car for $2000 that will need minimal work.

thats a good price. My clubby was pretty rusty in the ass end when I bought it. Almost anything can be fixed. Rust in the roof sills aint that bad. If you can get to the cancerous area by removing the roof lining, then you can weld repair it. I wouldn't shy away from something like that, but to some it might be a huge ask. Depends on how much cash you have to fix it and how much you can do yourself!

I am not a welder and wouldn't know where to start so.. maybe Anton is right...

makka's look at a car and tell ya if it is worth it company works for cans of jd depending on how far i have to traval i'll give you a honest opinion of what it is worth what it will cost in parts and you can make a decision from there

External roof seams are not that hard. My son's Clubbie rusted a hole in the RF corner of roof panel due to lack of gutter drain holes. I welded a patch in (carefully) , didn't burn the roof lining....

My car had rust in the RH `drip rail' (so-called) so I took it off. If the LH one gets any worse I'll bloody well rip it off too... they do SFA except harbour rust!

Yeah, that bent bit of tin spotwelded (in a few places) under the gutter each side. Poms got rid of it eventually on their cars.
Dunno why it's called a drip rail- I get no more or less drips without it....

<edit> I got it- it's there to drip rust!

as in looked at to buy no, there's been 2 others the first wasnt even worth lookin at, it'd been in an accident and was a write off but the seller didnt bloody well tell me that, he still wanted $600 for it. the second one a guy at work was sellin it but by the time i got the money together he'd sold it, so this one is number 3

well i'm not to worried about doin any body work or that myself i'm just worried i'll have a crack at somthing that'll ruin it and cost mega $$$$$, its my first crack at doin up a car so i'm a bit sketchy
past 10 yrs all i've ever worked on are bikes, slap me infront or a motorcycle and nohing is imposible
