Hi all, I'm in the process of stripping my shell back to bare metal (Morris Mini Deluxe) http://members.dodo.com.au/~thechairman I was just wandering if it would be safe to remove (grind off, cut off etc) that rail that collects waters around the roof. I just think the painting/buffing will be an easier job without it, plus I like the cleaner look. ps. I'm not after a classic look or resto |

If you grind all that gutter off, the roof will fall onto the ground..... ![]() Doing this is called `deseaming'- usually the side moulds are taken off only, but sometimes the roof gutter too. I won't go into the ethics of it- but each seam must be welded as it's ground off, a bit at a time. It'll warp everywhere too. Unless you are a real good welder/bodyman, or got lotsa $$$$ I'd leave it alone. The `drip rail' on each side can come off though- they do SFA strength wise. ![]() |

*nods* personally i reckon they look good without the drip rail..... put it this way, if i pulled one of i cetainly wouldn't go to the trouble of replacing it, unless the car was some origi-dige thing G |

personaly I love the look of deseamed mini's but I do not have that sort of cash except if it was a bogg job and then it would not last anyway. I would love to see a Van Deseamed but Not yet |

Aslong as the roof gutter isn't taken off, I recon they look good. I wouldn't go to the trouble of doing it, however ![]() |

i read somewhere also (it might have been one of vizards books) that the side seams add about 64 square inches of frontal area, so taking them off decreases drag coefficient, but really it looks terrible, why would you do that? |
