Post subject:  Flywheel For Excalibur
Tried removing the flywheel without any sucess. Can anybody help?
Lossened off flywheel retaining screw four or five turns and then used a home made flywheel puller that I put together on the fly, consisting of 6mm thick PFC channel, and 3 high tensile bolts into the flywheel holes No Joy! steel started to bend. So i welded
gussets on the back 30mm x 6mm & high tensile fine thread centre bolt. Still no joy!
So after hitting and heating with the oxy acetalene still wont budge!
Is there a secret way of removing excalibur flywheel?

Now , I'm assuming you've got everything off (I normally take the main bolt all the way off rather than just loosening it) and often haven't got the luxury of a flywheel puller . The one time I used a proper puller I had to leave it on with a lot of tension on it and it let loose after several hours and sounded like a gun shot . They can be extremely tight . Normally I use a bit of two by two hardwood and give a couple of hits with a light hammer on the flywheel through the starter motor hole , turn the motor about 90 degree's , anothre couple of hits , turn it 90 degrees again etc . Normally don't have to hit hard but if it doesn't come off first few times around just hit a little harder each time .

just make a flywheel puller as per instructions by kev in the mini how to section, worked a treat for me.

by the way most flywheels are real tight

I take the bolt out of the end of the flywheel, and that big washer thingy out, then I have another bolt that I put in that the puller pushes on.... is the puller you made forcing against the end of the crank squarely?

anyway, last one I did was really really tight and I put a heap of pressure on the crank with the puller, then kept rotating and hitting through the starter hole till it popped off

Yes it was pushing square.
Put so much tension on it I thought that I would pull the three high tensile bolts out of the flywheel. I had the bolts in as far as they would go. Tried hitting the reverse side of the flywheel from the starter motor opening.
I was using very long sidchrome socket handle.

Crank the pressure back on it , wrap the end of the motor in an old doona and leave it sit overnight , you may hear an almighty bang followed by a clunk in a few hours when it all of a sudden comes loose .....

Made up Dr Mini's flywheel puller but made it 25mm thick.

I made mine in ~1966, and it's still pulling flywheels off... 8)
