Post subject:  2 - Core Radiator.... What Mods ?
Every 2-core Radiator Ad I've looked at states "Minor Modifications required"

anyone want to clarify this ?

I'm currently running a Minispares 4-core, but it just doesnt seem up to the job, so I'm looking at a 2-core....

I'm running a Super 2 Core from Karcraft, and i can't remember doing anything different to get the bugger in..

I know you have alot of fun with radiators though :P :lol:

ok, so a 2-core is nothing special to fit then ?

then again, you car has all that ugly on the front, might have more room up there.... :roll:

well, it does have more room between the radiator and the inner guard - you will probably need to bend the radiator shroud out a bit to stop it from rubbing on the rad...

I think the only mods possibly required are on the early 2 piece shrouds. I've just fitted one but that was custom mounts, however it looked to be made out of identical pressings to the stock ones.

the larger radiators dont fit in the roundie, They hit in the LH corner of the bonnet. not sure about mods, Mine fits due to the glassfibre front, But i am sure that they would rub on every other roundie bonnet!!

I have a 2 core in my race car and fitted without any mods. The only thing that may have needed changing was that it uses M6 bolts to hold on the shroud intsead of self tapping screws

I have had a 2 core Special and a standard 2 Core and "clubmn" I have had no Modes and no troubles with eather of them :!: specialy the Bonnet

depends on the profile on the top of the rad you buy, as a rule u can fit morris 1100 rads to clubmans no probs, although they wont fit roundies coz there square across the top (top tank)

I have seen some people "Massage" the front corner with a mallet, and they fit ;)

Failing that u can cut it with a hacksaw, take a "V" out of it, solder it up... or take it to a rad shop n they can do it for you.

all comes down to the rad that you buy, when it was made, and where it was made for, thers many different types/profiles.

I put a 2 core in Barney, all it needed was the screw holes opened out to take 6mm screws.
NOTE if no screws supplied (as with my 3 core one) and you buy some, BEWARE, they must be cut real short or you will pierce the $$$ core.

I seriously doubt these things are really any better than the Aussie Cooper S/ Mini Deluxe 3 core with 16 fins/inch.
And vibration can kill them, the shroud attachment plates are only soldered on, not rivetted too like Oz ones. My other (3 core) UK one is coming apart already..... :x

A good radiator core to fit to a mini is the one for the mini moke californian , ( can't think of the core number at the moment) . You can take your old radiator to a radiator shop and ask them to fit the core . The old tanks have to be modified to fit the new core which is a bit thicker and has 4 rows of tubes ... should be a bit cheaper though

i've got a 2 core ST radiator from Mini Spares Centre or MINI SPORT in the UK (can't remember which) bolted in easily no mods needed. The Mini runs very cool ie after about 40km highway driving it gets to the triangle bit on the Cool side on the Cooper S dashboard :D I went for one because it regualy gets to 40+ Deg C days here.

Thanks for the reminder ...

It went in with NO mods at all .... Zip, Zero Nada, Nothing....

looks like it wants to spit its load out as well, even when cold, but I've got an over-flow tank from a moke now to add ....

Just... where to put it ...... Hmmmm

Does it HAVE to sit higher than the radiator filler ?

Nope. Just make sure that the overflow line from the rad neck is sealed (ie clamped) perfectly onto the outlet, or else you will lose the vacuum to suck the water back in.

My coke bottle-overflow (very bling :roll: ) sat down in the rad shroud, with the filler neck up high next to the thermostat housing, no worries :wink:
