Post subject: | A+ Engine |
Hi all What year did the A+ engine come into existence in minis and mokes? Is their a cut off year between the A series & A+ series? Is there A series 1275 motors as compared to A+ series 1275 motors? |

its a mixed thing really, australian mini's never got a+ but the uk 1275gt got a+ block arround 1979, these cars were a mix of parts, usually a+ block and gearbox but non a+ head. from what ive read most of these ars went export(not uk home market), after the gt ended production in (1981?) it must have dissappeared from minis till (1990? ) when the cooper was released. 81 - 90 it was still being used in the mg metro and metro VDP and the (montego/mastero 1300?) (not austin metro) The 998 a+ came in mis 80's sometime...i think so no, it didnt kinda come in overnght, im not sure about the moke though. |

In Aus later Mokes, post 78 until the end in 82, had A+ gear boxes but original A engines. All Australian delivered minis and Mokes had A engines, not A+. In the UK the 1275 A+ engine disappeared out of mini production, but continued in Metros during the 80s until minis once again got 1275 engines in 1990. I believe all metro engines were A+ until they changed to K-series. |

MY 81 moke has A+ gearbox and I presumed A+ 1275 motor. I presumed this because it has an A+ dist drive. engine no 12H706AA7032314 |

All Australian delivered minis and Mokes had A engines, not A+. I disagree. I have two 1980 Mokes with their original '12H' motors. They are both A+. Dead give-away on the A+ is the dizzy and the timing cover vent. |

whats the engine number? and is the dizzy held in by a "fork" or a clamp? also the area on the front of the block is ribbed on an a+. 77 clubman would NOT hav had a standard A+, or a 1275 for that matter. oh, 1275 thermostats point a diff direction to smallbore ones...pain in the.... |

I've got the A+ dist drive dog, a vent can on my timing cover. What sort of ribbing does an A+ head have? Anybody got a pic and on that subject how do you insert a pic into your message? |
