Post subject:  Morris 850 front wheels LOCKED!!

g'day guys, I went to move my 850 project from its current nesting position in the workshop the other day and to my horror I found the car wouldnt roll!!!, now i checked the handbrake and the rear wheels turn freely but the fronts are locked solid like its in gear.

I checked the shifter position even went through the gears, I pushed the clutch in and out a couple of times ( the hydraulics need replacing as well, this car has been sitting for a long long time)

I'm guessing maybe something like the clutch has seized or something in the gearbox is broken etc.

Anyone know how i can get it rolling again? its a pain in the a** moving it with a trolley jack. I'm eventually going to reco the motor/box so i dont need to get the car running or driving just need to free up the front wheels so i can steer it around.

Cheers Pete

Can you turn either wheel when car jacked up on trolley jack?
If not, I bet the drums are seized to the shoes. Like Josh's Moke was... I had to introduce Mr Anglegrinder to both drums.
Try tapping a BFH gently around the drums with the adjusters backed off...

It might not be nice....but if the wheel cylinders have let go and the shoes have grown like the incredible hulk.....well....you can back off the adjusters and grab the mother of all pullers and reef the drums orf....remove the countersunk, drum retaining screws first

I can't turn the wheels when its jacked in the air, I was worried something in the box had let go, at least the brakes are easy enough to free up to get it rolling.

I've got a decent size slide hammer and have access to an even bigger one at work so I'll give that a go.

If you are going to slide hammer it by pulling on a wheel stud, , do take the hub nut off....
