Post subject:  Koni adjustables front and rear for VAN

Just to let you know, I just had a call from Wilkinsons Suspension (Perth, WA) they will have in stock (just landed in the Eastern States) Koni adjustables for front and rears for Mini vans.
Yellow Sport - $273/set for fronts, and rears same price. Two different shocks but same price.
The shocks in my van are apparently ok so I'll wait till I get it on the road, see how it handles. if its not just great, I'll be going Konis :)

Konis are great shocks- they last just about forever, then you can get them reconditioned.

Funny I'v been told by three differnt place here in Sydney that Koni do not do Ajustable that will fit in a Van otherwise we can hit the arch with a BFH (iv been waiting to that) and then it will fit (no Thanks). Now I must admit I have asked for Ajustable and lowered shocks.
Fronts I have been quoted $321 from top performace for the pair....so maybe they were quoting the reds....funny how they did not give me that option. Whats the differance between the yellows and reds.

With a littl emore info and investigation I may be interested Jill

Talk to Gareth. When we did 'em on his van years back, I don't remember a BFH being needed.

Konis do a lowered front shock (not sure about the rears for lowered). The Yellows are the "Sports" shock. Same as I have on the Nissan, guessing thats the performance version, rather than street, but thats just a guess. Wilkinsons know I race (did all the suspension on the Nissan), so it would be the performance version I would think. and he did say that was "my price", I thought he was just throwing that in as part of the sell. maybe he was serious :)

edit: Im trying to organise hilos first, I didnt know that the ride height with 12" wheels will be very similar to the 10"s (depending on tyre choice).
Once I get the ride height sorted then I'll get the shocks, prolly the Koni lowered front shocks and normal Konis for rear (both Sports).

okie dokie.. we're on!

How far do the fronts need to be lowered before you need the "lowered shocks"?

What exactly is the problem if you run the normal sports Koni and hilos set lowish? Whats the advantage of the lowered shocks.
I'll be lowering mine as low as I can without hitting anything. I dont mind being super careful over speed humps etc, had plenty of practice at that  as long as it doesnt bottom out on the road I'll be happy.

Ok as we all know, the shocks are only to absorb the bounce and stop the oscillations in the springs they are not designed to support the weight of the car.
Supporting the weight of the car is the job of the springs / tortion bars ect
when you lower the car you end up using the shockies to support some of the weight of the car if your still using the standard shocks
depending on how much you drop the car determines how much extra pressure the shocks are under
Monroe shocks say that you can get away with loweriong the car about 1inch on the standard shocks (this is for most cars and should apply to mini's aswel)
this will general make your shocks feel stiffer in the ride and unfortuately will increase wear on the shocks as they are always under more pressure
so if lowering less then 1inch you should normally be able to get away with standard shocks
if lowering more then 1inch prob best off going lowered shocks

I total under stand what Rising Star is talking about (Hi and welcome and hope you enjoy it in here) and also the fun we have with speed humps...I have an ALFA 75 which is lowered 2" lower than normal and have had the exhaust raised as high as it can go and still I need to replace the muffler connection pipe tomorrow, no big deal. System has been replaced only once.

Let me know Cheers can't wait :D

Koni's main distributor in Sydney years ago was Proven Products at Guildford. Dunno if they are still going.
