Post subject:  HIF38 Issues
Hi,

I have a HIF38 carb that was an eBay bargain. Now I'm finding out why it was a bargain! :?

1) Under the fload bowl cover there is nothing connecting the jet to the mixture screw. There is also no connection between the choke mechanism and jet at all. The minimania site mentions a bi-metal strip. Is this what connects to the jet? Does anyone have any pics of a HIF38 or HIF44 with the float cover removed?

2) The part of the throttle linkage where the cable connects is missing. Anybody have any pics of this part so I can copy?

3) Lastly, anybody have a knackered HIF38 or 44 I can raid for the missing parts to get mine working?

Send me your email and I will email you exploded diagrams and photos of connections - I got one out of England and it need a reco kit through it.

Midel (the Australian SU agents, based in Sydney) are very familiar with the carby and have all the parts. A reco kit is in the order of $20-30 and not hard to fit out.

The major problem is that the choke is a twist design and separated by a couple of seals. These seals harden and crack with modern fuels and allow unmetred fuel into the engine.

KLAS, that does help somewhat. It looks like I am up for a rebuild kit and a Bi-Metal Assembly Kit at minimum. But I still can't figure out how the mixture screw raises or lowers the jet. The diagram doesn't show how it fits on.

Maybe when I order the parts arrive it will make more sense! :?

the bi-metal looks like this

the big hole takes the jet, the small one at the rivets is where its fittet to the carb body and the slot is where the adjusting screw sits.
turning the adjuter in you "bend" the metal an it lowers the jet
