Post subject: | Replacement doors for K-series Clubman |
Hi all, Is it possible (and I'm fully prepared for it not to be) to replace the K series doors* on my van (which are rooted) with any others? Can I use internal hinge MK III doors? There was a bloke selling a pair of NOS doors, but he wanted NZ$500 each... The van's probably going to need certification for other stuff anyway. TIA. * K-series are external hinge / lift-up handle / quarterlights / burstproof latch |

Why you call them K series doors? Is that Kiwi thing??? To us they are plain old Oz Clubman doors! UK MkIII+ doors will not fit on an Oz car without major surgery. The are different in every dimension - taller, wider and a different shape top and bottom. To fit them you would have to change the inner and outer A panels (between front guards and doors) for MkIII ones. You would also have to modify the B pillars, modify the sills and modify the panel above the door and below the roof gutter. Not impossible, but not easy all the same. Hope this helps. |

I've pondered the idea of grafting a set of UK internal hinges into an Oz mini somehow. Without having looked real hard at it, I reckon that it might be do-able. Anynoe got any clues? |

hmmmmm....I don't think that would be legal! Imagine if you were in a crash.....they might fall off or something. I think that might even need an engineers approval...?!? |

Hey, if the people at the autosalon car shows can fit suicide doors and scissor doors, then internal hinges on a mini are possible. I know a few ways it couls be done. Some require a lot of body work, and others only need a welder. |

Yeah, I reckon for somone what knows what they're doing it wouldn't be too hard. If it was done right there shouldn't be any probs with it - prolly need an ginger beer's certificate though. |

Aren't they just standard clubman doors? Or is it some retarded merging of the two types? I had a look at mine (lift up latches on a mini K) on the weekend and everything looks good up the top of the door. I think I will get some aerosol fisholine oil and nail the bottom where the water will be sitting. dewey |

Late Mini K or 1275S doors are Oz Clubbie doors. re the internal hinges- if you look at the 2 cars side by side, it's serious crap to change it. The whole A pillar is different internally. Also, the internal ones are allegedly less strong- ![]() |

Gotta admit, I haven't had the opportunity to look at the internal hinge set up in the flesh... just piccies in the UK mags. Seemed like a good idea though. |

So my van may have been one of the last with old type doors! |

My van, a 1/70 has the old doors, and a magic wand. The Mini K I used to own, a 8/70, which was ex PMG was the same with the old doors and magic wand. |
