as far as i know no strengthening issues there unless you mean removing the actual metal seat part or just the cusion
i would think if you remove the whole thing it will be weakend

Are there any structural problems to consider if I wanted to remove the rear seat pockets? And the rear seat as well for that matter? From what I can see I can just cut them out and the overhanging piece of the rear seat, no strengthening required? |

hello, I think you will find that most people that do it end up putting half alloy/steel roll cages in the back,coz eany bit you cut out is a bit that isnt there doing its thing holding the car in shape if you goto do it,id say get a half alloy roll cage for sure,just to play it safe |

No Probs eh? Good to hear. The reason I ask is I'm in the planning stages of my next mini project. I'm fairly tall at 6'4 and have always found in the past that the driver seat rubs on the pocket, making a nasty hole in the back of the seat. So I figure if I remove the pocket, then I have more room to put different seats in, and possibly further back as well. If you look at the rear seat, under the cushion, there is a piece (of steel) that sits forward (to the front of the car) with a support going down to the exhaust hump in the floor. This is the piece I am also considering removing, as I will be registering it as a 2 seater.... |

The pocket and seat are part of the tortional rigidity that connects the B pillar to the C pillar. A half cage isnt going to help here much as the std design does a poor job of triangulating front bottom to back top. I remember (6') fitting a deep dish steering wheel and column bracket then reclining the seat (subaru liberty) back. Good Luck |

A six point roll cage 
Another option is to cut the tops off the bins leaving them level with the seat base (steel). |

Another option is to reshape the bins with a BFH (and welder if needed) so they just miss the seats. I did this on my 850 back in the 60s. |

All of the guys in uk have problems at the base of the b pillar, part of it is unsupported if you cut the door bins out. So if you have a welder just put a bit of sheet in there. |
