well i had my turbo engine running now for a few months now and i have to say it is great and well worth the money.

engine is out atm becuse of a problem with the vernier adjustable timing gear , look as if i didnt tighten the cam gear tight enough and has come loose and slotted the vernier hole. Next time this will be torqued to 75ft/lb  . The gear will be replaced as it was the only thing that went wrong and luckly didnt do an other damage.

while the engine is out i will be giving it s freshen up. the first thing will be the manifold , a new design is on the way just to help a little with flow , as the old one posibly lacked in this area. The new manifold will also be ceramic coated and skimmed after welding, because this was not done last time the centre exhaust flange developed a leak.

while the turbo is off i thought it could get a rebuild as there was some oil in the compressor side of the turbo and a had a little thrust and shaft play. The Quote came to $800ish depending where so the decission was made to upgrage to a turbo from the garrett GT series turbos. The new garrett Gt1548 turbo is pysically the same as my old garrett T2 but flows an extra 20hp plus is slight smaller exhast housing which should reduce the turbo lag . The T2 saw full boost at 3400rpm which was a tad high, but could have been partly to blame from manioflold leak / flowing not very well or turbo shaft play.

Last on the list is to remove the distributor. Im upgrading to wasted spart programable ignition. I will be using a ECU called Megajolt , which uses ford edis parts.

anyway here are some pics of the maniolfd taking shape using my NEW Tig welder :)

Boy that manifold sure looks like it would creat a massive amount of back preasure even for a turbo motor... Espesially form the 1 and 4 cylinders.. Why dont you use a standard mini header system..?

Awesome stuff!
Neat welds on the start of the new manifold... can't wait to see what it turns out like 8)

The car went VERY well when I had a ride in it in when I was over for MDU.. :D

Hey Ben, greatwork! and nice tidy bench! ('files' drawer!)

I am interested to know more about your TIG welder? what did you get? DC one? where from and about how much $$$

If you don't mind sharing! I hope one day to be able to afford one and learn to TIG! 8)

I'm working on my present employer to get a surplus AC/DC Transtig 150, cheap. 8)

teriffic, very clever indeed :)

I'm keen to see how you set up the EDIS ignition and megajolt!

you'll have to make a kit or sommit

Awesome man, I'm very interested to see how you go with the EDIS, would like to use it on my A+ metroturbo engine, depending on how you go, progamable map would be great! Are you going to use a map sensor or a TPS? Would a map sensor be better,as a would read boost? Keep us posted :)

got a bit more done on the manifold , made a jig from te othere manifold so that the turbo stays in the exact position so exhuast can stay the same (saves me makin a new one) and because the turbo fit without any firewall mods.

A std mini header is totally the wrong shape to fit the turbo down the back of the block and you would deffinatly need to modify ther firewall in some way , extractors could be modifyed to work but most are made of thin material and could crack with the extra heat and weight of the turbo.

im using the megajolt which is ignition only, im quite happy with the hif turbo carb atm so no injection just yet  . i will be using the computer with built in map sensor for megajolt as that will sense boost and timing can change accordianlly.

the welder is a 200amp AC/DC Tig bought of ebay brand new for $900 :) some cheapo brand but seems t be very good. he has one for sale now for sale

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AC-DC-TIG-ARC-20 ... dZViewItem

here some photos of of today not much room to play with when you want it to fit without touching the firewall
