I finally got around to upgrading my cooling system this week-end, new highflow water pump (1275 pump), new thermostat and a super cool two core radiator form Karcraft. I must admit I have been putting it off a bit after hearing some of the horror stories about changing radiators in these cars.
The effort appears to be worth it though after taking it for a good drive in some decent temps the car ran nice and cool..... :D , I took some pictures of the work and once I figure out how to post them I'll put them up.

I put the same 2 core thing in my car last week, from Karcraft. The difference is HUGE. I've gone from running 15 degrees too hot to running 15 degrees too cool, which may not be a good thing for the oil..but for a road car it shouldn'e be too bad. The volume difference between the UK 3 core and the 2 core is unbelievable, the 2 core takes about twice the coolant! :D Definitely worth the money.

Does the 2 core radiator that you got (for Clubbie) have the top metal tube attached for the heater outlet? Thanks.

No, it does not have the top tube for the heater, I didn't know you could get one with this ?. My car is a 1972 model, was that for a later model or older?.

I'm pretty sure that pipe was an Oz Clubby thing only.
If no pipe on rad, just use a bottom hose with a heater connection.

has anyone taken the engine fan off and just run a good electric fan.. they say it will free up about 1hp because ya don't have the drag of the fan

Hi Mrclubby,
That can be done for sure, but I don't think thats a popular mod on mini's, I don't know if it's a space problem or not, but I have seen a lot who acually put on the 6 blade fans or even the 2 blade fans that preform well and reduce drag on the engine. I'm assuming you have the plastic 11 blade fan that I have on mine..

I got both mech fan and thermo fan.

Thermo fan is from a Jap Rover and is built in a rectangle cowling box thing that covers the hole in the wheel well to let air out of the radiator. It's quite cool actaully. I have it on a automatic switch (from the Jap Rover as well) that turns the fan on when the needle on the guage gies jsut above 'N', this helps in hot traffic.

If I get the time 2moro I'll jack up that side of the car and take a pic. I'm pretty busy 2moro with other mini work (as I always am...) but will make a minute or two to do that for ya.
