Hi all,

Im just finishing building my 1360 and im unsure on what plugs to run. I dont know what comp it will be but i think it will high. my setup will be basically the same as gerg's.
Also would like to know what needle will be a good starting point.

Thanks all
Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard, I'm using an RI needle in my 1.75su , that gave the best results on GR's dyno, thats with an RE13 cam and standard head, is your setup the same?, if not then really the only way to get it spot on is to get it set up on a dyno. I'll go out and see what type of plugs I have in after I finish watching Rogue..... :D

cheers Gerg

For road use, unleaded 98 fuel, NGK `BP5ES' plugs gave more power on GR's dyno than BP6ES. This was in my 1412 (a stroked 1360). GR says this is common for unleaded fuel, I think BP recommends this change too.
However for any track use, you would want BP7ES or BP8ES.

The needle we ran in the HS6 carby (GR manifold) was an OA6.

Thanks guys

Yeah i was only going to go to 1330 but after talking to you greg and GR i soon changed my mind. Yes im uising RE-13, std 1275 A+ emmission head 1.75su on GR manifold. (i wasn't intentionally copying you greg)

BP5ES plugs....... aren't they std plugs. Oh well that was easy.

Thanks again guys
Cheers
Richard

Oh p.s i have a 4K head with rockers sitting at home gathering dust do you think its worth getting them done?? Im thinking i will loose too much bottom end.

BP6ES are standard, the 5's are one range hotter.

I have a set of ToyoMini rockers in our 1293 with a Wade 104 cam and twin HS4s, bottom end is still OK. But- the cam has less lobe lift than an RE13.
I also have a set in the 1412 stroker with an RE13, it made 113lb/ft, but torque peaked at 5000 rpm. The HP (113.6 with HS6) peaked at 6500.
I'd say in a 1360 road car, 1.3:1 offset bushed pressed steel rockers (like Greg runs) would be better- peak torque would come in sooner..

Yeh, go the 1.3 offset rockers with that set-up Richard, my peak torque appears at 3000rpm(98ib/ft) and drops off to 89 at 6500rpm.I can tell you it's absolutley great to drive and fires out of corners extremely well 8) . Btw GR advised me to use the 1.3 ratio rockers so that the torque dosen't come on too far up the rev range..

Yeah peak torque 5000rpm is a bit too high for me.
3000rpm sounds a lot more useable on the street.
Im trying to watch my funds at the moment so i will have to leave it for later if i want that bit more.

Thanks for your help guys

Yep 1098, +.100".

A 1220 would be nice (68mm) 8) but Imp pistons are a bit rare these days.

Well, Vizard says you can go with +.040 Imp ones (1252cc), I've built 3 in the past with std 68mm bore.
You have to offset the bores, and it's then a lottery whether you hit the oil feed hole from the oil pump, it's right behind #4 bore. I hit it, once.

I think 68mm +.060 might be pushing it.

<edit> You use std 1098 rods, but hone the little end bush out about .001" to fit the Imp gudgeon pins.
Don't use the Imp circlips, they fall apart in a 1220 Mini. Don't I know it. :x
Last 2 1220 engines I built we used PTFE buttons in the ends of the pin instead.
No problems.

You also need to deck the block about .140" or so, these pistons are very short crown to pin height.
