I removed the rear plate mount from JAM's bum. I don't want to screw a number plate directly onto the boot lid.....so what ideas do people have to mount a number plate?

I once saw a Lancer with a swanky plastic mount. The mount attached to the bar and the plate attached to the mount. Looked real good. That's the kind of thing I was after.....

Any ideas people?

get a piece of flat bar, 1.5mm thick and 20mm wide. cut it to the length of the no plate, then drill holes in the bar to match the number plate mounting hinge holes, then counter sink these holes to match the screws. then drill the bar for the number plate holes. next weld some m4 nuts to the holes the number plate mounts to ( make them captive) now serew it to the boot lid with the original screws, then screw the plate on with the m4 bolts .

Make it out of anything you want, but don't use checkerplate, please!
Just fiddle around with whatever you can find. A good piece of stained wood woud match a wood grain dash, or a stainless plate would match the bumper.
Even a bit of chrome trim would look alright, if you can get it around the bend.

Not bad Ben, but I welded up the holes for the original number plate mount. It gave the lid a clean skin look . Hmmmm...what to do?

Just drill 4 holes and mount the plate. Only way ya can do it, and it looks like it was always spose to be like that, which is the main aim, right?

Anton, up here we have actual adhesive numberplates that just stick onto the surface, i have seen them on the front bars of various rice cars, and some exotics...... u probably won't want to stck anything on JAM's ass, but just a thought.

I still like the idea of something mounted to the car, then the plate mounted to that.

I'll check out Pick and Pay...bound to be a Jap car with something worth using....
