Post subject:  Which turbo is suitable for a mini?
G'day guys,

Im going to turbo my mini to keep myself occupied for a while.

I am just after a list of turbos that would be suitable for a mini.

I know about the pulsar T2 but is there any other options? Preferably from another car that I could find at a wreckers. I want to do this cheap as possible. :o

Any ideas where I can get a pulsar turbo from?

There are a few Australian 2nd hand jap import places about on the net. Most of them sell turbos seperately. I was emailing a few a while back when I was looking for a small supercharger. The majority of their stock would be suited for larger cars though I guess.

As for the pulsar turbo.. hmm.. there ARE pulsar clubs around.. just gotta find one..
What turbos were stock on the old 180sx? I duno. Just some suggestions.

choice of turbo all comes down to what manifold you are going to use. If you are going to use a metro manifold then you are limited to T3 based turbo's. Best choice i can see for that manifold would be the ball bearing T3 of a r33 skyline or a t25-t28 with a t3 exhaust housing like what grant has (boostedmini).

If you going to make a manifold you really cant go passsed the T2 based turbos, if you have a T2 manifold (flange) then you have about 100 chioces of turbo from T2 (exa), t25 (200sx), t28 (gtir pulsar) gt17,gt20,gt25 and so on.

If you are going to make a T2 manifold i have a T2 turbo here that i have been told is high flowed and is not going to be used. Yours for $20.

Im going to make my own manifold. A T3 might be a bit big for what I am after.

You can consider that turbo sold if it is in good nick?

If you are going to make a manifold then T2 will be the way to go. That way you can go t25 from a 200sx, 180sx, gtr skyline, sivia's, gtir pulsar etc.

Thats what i have done, and i can get t25's for around $200.

Sweet, that will give me plenty of options. I cant wait to get this all fitted up and working. then I can rip out the engine and restore the car with a nice new paint job.

The original metro unit is a t3 but with t25 inards... the t2 would work well with little lag,
but may suffer a little a high revs.(depending on engine and manifolds)
The T2 range is pretty common over here and therefore cheaper.
I have tried bigger turbo's... lots of power, but not easily driveable

Cool, Im not after huge power but a good increase in torque. My current engine does rev very high at all. If I need to upgrade later it will be easy as well with the T2 manifold.

Now I just need to find a carby and an intercooler and Ill be set.

Use the metro carb and manifold for ease of parts, and it's been tested so many times before.
Intercooler.... anything that fits. but the more lag you get from the manifolds

Will do, Should I do anything to the dizzy? Should I run colder plugs or are the standard ones fine?

Any other tips you could give me would be great.

I should get the T2 turbo off Brad next week so Ill get started on the manifold and fittings next weekend if Im not too busy. Ill likely just modify the standard exhaust manifold that I have.

I might just use a factory silvia or other nissan cooler, they arent too big and should be plenty for the little mini.

Im going to make this build as cheap as possible. This should be a bit of fun.
