Post subject: | running in a race motor |
Hi all, the problem I have is that Ive built a new motor and box unit for my clubby speed event car but I have no way to run it in, as its definately not road legal. The cars almost complete so the motor aint coming out again (unless it has to) Some ideas ive come up with: - do lots of cheap events and keep the revs down - sacrifice a set of drums and liners by running in on blocks - dyno. although Ive heard that most dynos are very expensive to run so inturn this would make it quite expensive for me any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks, Jeff Scanlan |

i say laps around the block keeping within very close proximity to your home, so if the men in blue do pull you over you cant point and say buti just live there, and hoppppfully in the perfect world they would let you off with a slap on the wrists and a "dont do it again", but its up to you, and i might add it is not the perfect world. Being a race motor i would think it doesn't require much running in - it should have been built fairly loose to start with. Run them in fast and they stay fast ![]() |

Rev the tits off it, or do a burn out but either way video it and post it up ![]() Both of these ideas are most probably bad ones but it's late/I'm tired and I have no one here to annoy  |

Run it in fast and rev the tits off it as above. But make sure it's WARMED UP before! I commented on a thread about this once before... ![]() |

Don't know where you are Jeff.... ... but many race tracks have practice days - eg Wakefield Park (Goulburn,NSW) has "Speed off the Streets"... http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/ ... about $110 and you'll get multiple 15 minute sessions throughout a day.... ... great way to run in your engine and play with other settings.... ....cheap compared to the cost of an engine rebuild.... ![]() |

if you think it too dodgy to take up the road, just run it at fast idle for 15- 20 mins at a time, after 2 hrs at 2- 2.5 k most of the rough edges will be knocked off, this is what i do with mine, never has a problem, carl |

Morris 1100 wrote: the bean wrote: run it in as you would run in any other motor Drive it down the highway? ![]() There's been many a race car run in that way. I do recall a well known race team at Bathurst one year running in their new engine from Orange to Bathurst on Saturday night as the car was coming back from the panelbeaters following a shunt in practise. I know of a lot of race cars that have been run in on the road. ![]() It is a worry when you run out of petrol in the middle of the night in a Formula Vee. ![]() |

Reminds me of the "World's fastest Indian" when he is pulled over in Nevada(?). Tells the policeman it IS road registered - in New Zealand! ![]() KB |
