Depends on the type of engine you want to build.
You can run hypatec pistons but be careful of compression

I'm looking at deep dish pistons. Do hypatec make a deep dish piston (by the sounds of it they do), and do they cost any extra than a normal hypatec over sized piston set?

Another way is to bathtub the chambers. Mine is out to 28cc ((no turbo, but I have forged flat top pistons) and you can go a bit bigger. Less chamber hotspots makes this method popular in UK among turbo dudes.

I'm with you there Doc...
Most motors i build are high compression.... then we work the head to suit, turbo gets a low compression ported head.
If you decide to take the turb off for any reason you can just change head and retain some power

Doc's idea is the plan for me....

Run standard Hypatecs and work the head to suit!

I'm thinking of building a Supercharged A+ 1275 for my new beast, and I was wanting to do exactally that, build the engine so if can be easily put back to NA if it ever needed to be.

So the normal dished pistons would be fine I would be guessing, and just hack as much outa the combustion chambers as possible? The blower kit i'm looking into comes with a plate to go between the head and the block, what would be peoples "educated" views on this?

I wouldn't use the decompression plate. You will reduce squish in the chamber (not that you will have much after it's bathtubbed either).
Before I hogged mine out to 28cc I ran 2 head gaskets. C/R was the same (10.4) but it just didn't go as well as now.

Two head gaskets or decomp plates only mean one thing....
twice as many head gasket problems.
I have enough trouble keeping my head gaket in now without creating a weak point.

im thinking of running 10 psi . what are a set of hypatec pistons worth. would they stand upto 10psi with a resonable compression ratio and what do you recommend. whats it worth to get the chamber bath tubbed.

Hypatecs are a strong piston. Oil drains behind the rings are drilled, not slotted- so the tops don't come off too easy!
I got a set of Hypatec 73.0mm ones (1360cc) for $270 last year. Hypatec 1275 +.020, .040, or .060" were around $250/set then.
Where are you at? Maybe get someone local to do the head. Or our friend Brickworx in SA, or Russell Engineering in Sydney, or...??

Can I high jack this thread and ask if anyone brings in Metro turbo motors into Oz? I have been thinking this might be a better way to go for a tow car. A half cut with air and brakes would be nice. I bet the price would frighten me though.
