Any problems fitting the 998 A+ style timing chain tensioner assembly (with engine plate and cover) to the old style 998 / 1100 block? Looks like it should bolt straight on. It will save trying to buy a couple of tensioner rubbers, which I don't think are available. |

I think a mate of mine has one on his car... no problem except the noise not necessary tho IMHO |

I would spend the money on a pair of duplex sprockets and chain instead. Tensioners help shut the noise up on a simplex chain, but they do nothing for chain stretch. |

I tried fitting the A+ backing plate and cover on the old style block, however it did not fit. One of the A+ cover bolts fouls against the block. The A+ block is a different shape in this area. ![]() |

You could probably just leave that bolt out, there are more than enough bolts there already to stop it leaking. ![]() I have a 1275 A+ motor with an A series cover, it runs duplex now. No tensioner, it was good enough for a Cooper S to run without. |

All done now. I put the original gear back on without any tensioner. I know it will stretch and get noisey with time. It's on a stock 1100 so it should last a while. Thanks |

I've just done this (although not running yet!): with a little game of pokey pokey with a drill a space for the errant bolt hole can be relieved in the block with no harm. Took the side off the bolt head well so less had to come off the block. |
