Hey everyone.

I need a little bit more go iout of my lump for the weekends race meet, can I get ANY more power, out of my engine, with out pulling it out?

different fan / pully?
change the 42mm webber to something else?
change timing? (set at 10)

Using a larger water pump pulley will give you a little more power at the wheels as the fan and water pump are turning slower, eg. using less energy.

The downside is that if your car is running hot this won't help it and you probably won't notice the difference...

I guess changing the manifold to a really good flowing one might help, how about the exhaust side?
Are you running points or an electronic dizzy? Also a better coil may make a slight difference but go to high and they will burn out the points...
If you wanted to go as far as changing the head I guess you could get a well ported one to chuck on

Or you could just whack on a NOS kit :lol:

Remove excess weight. For example: A monster tacho and shift light will not make a car go any quicker. Getting rid of any excess ballast will be the easiest way to make a low horsepower car go faster.

Tune the car for the most power. You say the timing is set to 10° Why is it set at 10°? Why not 12? Why not 8? There will be one mark that is right and a lot that are wrong (some are less wrong than others) the easiest way to find out is by by setting it up on a dyno. (you can set timing on the track but the chances are that you will go the wrong way and end up pinging during a race)

Hey everyone.

I have a good head on it already, Ill change the manifold though. is the 42mm to large for a small bore?

dizzy is good. points. dont know about the coil though.

I have got hold of a single blade fan, need to track down one more. ill find a larger pully also.

everything is stripped out of the car, light battery I may go as far as putting on my glass boot lid.

its set at 10 cause it went well so i locked it off. how much is a dyno tune worth?

oh and i have a morris 1100 rad with no thermostat, never goes over 80

ditch weight is the main thing,
dyno tune is the next best bet, but only if they're good.
use a clean air filter, new spark plugs and leads, thinner oil

how about removing the fan and fitting an electric thermo fan, fairly cheap and not too hard.

I would also stick a thermostat in it. (I know it is extra weight but it will make the car faster) Without a thermostat the two cylinders closest to the waterpump will run too cold and the other two cylinders will run too hot.

didnt know that, thanks.

I have heaps of thermo fans, ill see if one fits.

I use castrol edge 25w50, does not have a air filter. has new plugs and leads.

A thermo fan will be better than a mechanical fan in a racing situation because you can turn it off when you don't need it ie. whilst moving, this will help, even if only a little.

Are you running a dynamo or a alternator? Dynamo's generally don't like high revs, you can also get larger pulleys for both these...

If you are only chasing top end power you could also look at a set of 1.3 rockers.

You could also try running a thinner oil if possible.

And a 42 weber should be fine if jetted correctly it should definitely breath freely in the top end as well.

Have you set you cam timing accurately?

Its a alternator. (small one) and where can I find a set of 1.3 rockers? and I would think the cam timing is good, I might check it when the rad is out.

Other things that ill be doing over the weekend is fitting a set of discs, some camber on the rear wheels, maybe a wheel alignment, and removing the oil cooler..

leave the oil cooler if you're going to the track.

you want to run a slightly lower tyre pressure because it will heat up on the track.

umm remove the bumpers?

Have the Doc make you up a set of offset bushes.
What fuel do you run? tried an octane booster?
