Poeee,
No you can't. The arse end of the gearbox & diff case is quite different, selector linkage into box is different, yada yada..
This applies to all rodchange, not just Metro/A+.

You CAN get a 4 synchro remote change gearbox case (Mini K or Mk2 S) and dump the gears from a Clubbie rodchange (A series, not A+) into it. Gears all fit except reverse- you need the reverse gear and shaft from the remote box.
Of course you also need the remote shift housing, all the linkage and the underfloor bracket.
Then you can chuck all those engine `steadies' away, except the stock one above the clutch housing..

You can fit A+ gears into a remote change case IF you modify the layshaft to suit the case. Involves maching the 3rd step back a bit, must be done on a crank grinder. Have to use the A+ 1st motion, mainshaft, gears (except reverse), laygear & little A+ laygear thrust washer. Steve

Why would you want to? Are A+ actually any tougher? :?

Late model injected minis seem to suffer from gearbox issues (esp synchros) and stock injection cars are not very high powered. 4synchro remote boxes (eg: Mini K) seem to be more reliable.

bnicho,
A+ layshafts are better as the bearing at 1st gear end is bigger dia. They don't wear as much as A series 4 synchro ones. I just did up Mini Mad's one- layshaft had absolutely no wear. We put it back in, something I never do with A series ones which are invariably stuffed.

Yeah, they are the ones I buy now. He makes 3 types- 3 synchro, 4 synchro, and A+.
Gets them made in Sydney I think.
The A series ones wear, but not as bad as imported do.

he told me they make them on premise they have a machine shop down stairs

Maybe, but they get hardened somewhere in Sydney. Max bitched to me about what that costs these days!

I do it to fit the Clubman SCCR A+ gear set in my remote case. As Kevin says, one benefit is the better layshaft, I've been using the same SH one for 4 seasons now and it is still perfect. In times gone by, lucky to get 1 season from an A series layshaft. Steve

scott asked the question coz we were wondering what box to use.
he wants to get a metro A+ 1275 same as mine, and well i want to know as well what gbox to use.

even tho the metro is rod change and can't be swapped is it much worse?
worth the trouble of finding a mini k box?
