i guess changing a steeringwheel is a mod??
There are a number of different boss kits. anyone know how many?
I just bought a sporty looking steeringwheel.
is one brand better than any other when it comes to boss kits. I have no idea. :roll:

Boss kits go onto the top spline of the steering column shaft and secure with the standard nut (in most cases)
The steering wheel is held in usually with bolts that go into the threaded holes in the steering boss.

Keep in mind that non factory steering wheels are illegal and a defect waiting to happen.

Boss kits are fairly much standard, tho there are different styles - like MOMO, SAAS, which i have found have different "stud patterns" so make sure u get the right one for the steering wheel.

serious :shock: :shock: thats a bit dumb how many of those aftermarket wheels must get sold every day, and their not all for race cars. oh well heres the begining of my life of crime.. :twisted:

you can get a universal boss kit nowadays..but take you wheel with you and check it in the shop :idea:
About $80 I think

I think there are rules based on year of car and whether it has airbag, I don't believe there is a blanket ban on them. Not up here, anyhow. Might be different in Gestapo SA.. :lol:

Yupi NSW annual roadworthies, now that SUCKS.
All aftermarket steering wheels are defective/illegal.
In All states of AUstralia AFAIK.

MOMO is the only manufacturer that meets australian design rules.
but then you still have issues of size of a wheel.

Just waded thru the RTA's ADR list here http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/ ... /vsi07.pdf
ADRs only apply in NSW to cars built after 1/8/72. 8)
Nothing there I can see specific to steering wheels either.

Not sure about NSW but when we go through a roadworthy, we must have a standard steering wheel on the car. even my 1961 850.

My son's `78 Clubbie has a 12" Mountney. (too effin' small for me...) But, it always passed annual pink slip OK. :wink:
Got pulled up lots of times- never pinged for the wheel. 8)

Makes ya wonder what the smallest diameter wheel alowed would be...I've driven one a long time ago with a tiny wheel and it was not a comfortable feeling....

In Victoria an aftermarket steering wheel is perfectly legal as long as it meets the regulations.

From the Vic Roads website:

7. STEERING WHEELS

Replacement steering wheels must be not less than 330mm in diameter. If the original steering wheel was designed with a recessed or padded hub, the replacement wheel must be of similar design.

Steering wheels fitted to passenger cars manufactured after 1970 must not be replaced with any steering wheel which would cause the vehicle not to comply with the energy absorption requirements for steering columns in ADR 10.

Vehicles manufactured after June 1995, which are required to comply with ADR 69/.. (Full Frontal Impact Occupant Protection), may only be fitted with steering wheels certified by the vehicle manufacturer as suitable for that vehicle.

Don't get an Autotechnica boss, YUKK. They ordered me one (I thought I was getting a SAAS one). Doing the allen key screws up and all of a sudden while doing one up, the thread went crap and the allen kew slipped out and put a scratch in the my nice new wheel's centre. The screw didn't even go in all the way. :twisted:

My old man used to do pinks at a workshop and said the sports steering wheel rule only applys to air bag equiped cars, however the steering wheel can not be any smaller in size than the standard road wheel.
