Hi,

I've heard you can put Camira brakes onto a mini without too much trouble? Anybody done this before? If so, have any tips how to go about it?

Can't find anything about the Camira ones at present though a few people have done them , this is Hanra's thread about using Honda disc's . http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28609

Remember , to be legal they will need to be certified by an engineer .

No , cooper and cooper s discs were standard fitment so they don't need engineering , only if you change something from standard . There really isn't a cheaper way of getting disc's on a mini if that's what you're looking at .

Upgrading to original equipment as fitted by the manufacturer on that model does not require engineering, Cooper S brakes are a straight swap.

I finally got my camira brake set, played around with them last night.
These are BIG vented discs, for high power applications.
As I'll be fitting it to my hill climb car I don't need an engineer's approval.

The Fiesta conversion sounds great - can still run 10" rims

Hmm well i'm going to be running a 1330 with either a T2/T3 turbo. Looking at somewhere around the 160hp mark. Will be used mainly road driving so just trying to work which brakes are best when take into consideration performance:price.

What are the restrictions , do you want to run 10" or 13" wheels ? Have a look through the conversions section and see what people are running there as they are stopping some seriously fast mini's . Camira or Honda brakes may well suit your application but discuss them with an engineer before you start on them and make sure you build them to what they ask for rather than doing all the work and then having to redo something because they aren't happy with them .

Yeah good idea sports. I'll be running 13's so there will be plenty room avaliable to fit most brakes.

If you were going to get your turbo setup engineered (but I'd go the sneaky way), then your engineer will want vented discs.

That means using converted Metro/honda/camira/fiesta parts & you'd be getting engineering approval anyway.

I'm tempted to just do it the sneaky way to brakes and turbo lol

I've only seen one Camira set on a Mini, they had mounted the caliper by welding a plate onto the swivel hub.
This is VERY BAD PRACTICE- the swivel hubs are NOT steel, they are cast iron. Welding them (apart from being illegal under ADR rules these days) is likely to cause them to distort their bores, and crack under load. Cast iron is brittle stuff.

At least the Honda conversions have the caliper bracket BOLTED onto the existing hub holes.

The Fiesta conversion I believe needs disc swivel hubs, you might as well go use proper S or 8.4 calipers instead.

Note I have studiously avoided using the b r a k e word, who is the funny mod who fiddled the forum, obviously he cannot spell for crap.

Len Read from Vic wrote an article back a while ago (1989?) complete with pictures on how to fit Camira brakes to a mini. I have the article stashed in a box somewhere. If I remember it used Morris 1100 drive flanges, drum brake hubs, commodore calipers, and a flat adapter plate Bolted to mount the calipers. No welding required. Len had it fitted to his 8 port turbochaged Supermini.
