G'Day, Has anyone used 1.08:1 Drop gears, Over 1:1? What is the difference, And how does this affect your gear ratios??? Im using a short ratio straight cut box, will it make it shorter or longer, or are you beter leaving them 1:1 and changing your diff ratio to what you require??? |

They are made for race cars - it's easier to change the drops than the diff, so you can change the overall rato for different circuits quickly (well quicker anyway...). Daniel |

Autos have 1.15 to 1 drop gears. This makes a 2.76 diff into the equivalent of a 3.17. Higher number means better acceleration at the expense of more revw at a given road speed. Auto drop gears don't fit manual boxes, before anyone asks. |

Auto drop gears don't fit manual boxes, before anyone asks. And for others wondering, neither does the diff's 2.76 crown wheel and pinion.

A mate has a 2.76 in his MPi mini and it feels like first gear is missing! I really need to swap my diff to a 3.2 or 3.4 from an earlier Auto, but I'm just too lazy.

I have 2.76 in mine at moment (which is only good on open roads) don't go below 3.2 if you live around traffic(3.4 with small block), you have to calculate the ratio depending on the ratio of your diff. I cannot remember how it goes at moment but i think have to multiply your final drive ratio by the drop gear ratio to get the end result. |

But what's wrong with a hydraulic handbrake hmmm?

Put that alloy head to good use! |

A little, I guess. He's deaf, so he does talk with a sort of accent. But he's very clever with BMC stuff.
