V8's have been done.....but then its barely a mini anymore (cept for the rover v8 on the austin princess :?: gearbox) so yeah basically anything is possible with enough time/money

generally the biggest a-series motor that gets done is 1380 (you can go bigger but it starts getting VERY expensive) then there's the numerous engine transplants that get done....everything from suzuki swift gti donks to honda vtecs and then v8s

to borrow gaf's (or someone's??) favourite saying....."how long's a piece of string?"

from one end to the other....

really though, any jap four is a lot of work and has a lot of hidden costs (unless you uncle or some such is a machinist), and you can forget registering anything with more than 4 cylinders and anything over about 1800cc's, even with an engineers report, you just wont get one.....

Come live in SA - no such thing as pink/blue slips here. No compulsory RWC here either.

Ah yes but your Highway Patrol coppers are related to the Gestapo and use the same tactics, I've heard. Just gotta pull you up and 'ave a look, is your pseudo annual inspection..

well if you whack a massive donk in here is WA you 'should' get it engineered.. forget about insurance if you hit anything and dont have it engineered though

but basically if you get enough of a mad engineer here your good to go.
my mates putting a 1JZ TT into his 82 supre.. engineers like.. get it going and bring it round to me and i'll ave a look and write you up

licencing dont car so long as you have the engineers report

and no annual inspections

biggest engine you can put in NSW is 3x the weight of the car.

eg. my mini weighs in at 740kg now so i could put a 2.2 litre engine in.

But if the motor is turboed it is 2.5x

eg 740 kg could hold a 1800 turbo.

Think for out right power the best option would be a b18a out of a late model integra type R, with a turbo these engines in the usa are making over 400hp reliably.

a while ago i was thinking of fitting a motor from a morris nomad (1500cc OHC)and then turboing it  but it was just not feasible, and i couldnt source a motor just on a hunch that it would be a bolt in conversion.

They don't bolt in. The mounts are different in a Nomad. But they can be made to fit - I've seen a Moke and a Mini converted.

There are very few aftermarket tuning bits for those engines and they aren't any more powerful stock than a mild 1275 anyway. The five speed with cable shifter is pretty shocking when the cables stretch.

In my opinion, they're not worth the effort.
