Post subject:  Singh grooves

After reading this post
http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48196 and following the link http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=224101
I had a laugh but started looking into these "singh grooves" that are basically grooves cut into the combution chamber, usually in the head but sometimes the piston. These grooves allegedly solve all sorts of problems, increase power, save fuel and promote world peace and can be whacked into your engine using only a hacksaw blade and a file :!: :!:
Seems to me the shape of a mini combustion chamber would make it a prime candidate for this mod,.
What dyas think

What?? this is funny sh*t!! there are reasons why there is a metal ring around the cylinder part of the head gasket... I reckon this is asking for a blown head gasket...

Read through most of it, all it's trying to do is "acheive clean burn" Putting in grooves like that will create heat spots on the sharp bits. After running it will glow red hot on those spots. Perhaps this is what results in "clean burn"? by doing that it just creates new stresses in the head, that's where they would crack first, in between those grooves. Never mind about increasing combustion chamber size and lowering CR.

What I want to know is what happens to the head gasket that is now exposed to the combustion chamber?

Mini heads already do this, it gets red hot between the valves and that is where MK1 S heads used to crack. As far as I know this is a STUPID IDEA!!!

I think there is some merit in the idea, especially to improve fuel economy on older engines. Wouldn't mind trying it out on a small bore. Hmmm....

Of course I'm sceptical that there has been no dyno proof.

Read the attahced thread thoroughly, 51 pages of "OMG WTF is this guy on crack?"

Not the Lancer guy - he clearly is on some strong drugs (or needs to be)!

Singh grooves are not new, but I've never seen them used on an A-series

Well that was an entertaining afternoon reading through most of 58 pages of that thread. It's EPIC with 1,700,000 views!!!

whats the problem? test a engine, fit a similar, "grooved" head, test again. then you know.

maybe worth to know, GM came out with a similar idea shorty after Singh was granted the patent

As yet, the importance of Nitrogen during the combustion process has been completely overlooked. Read on to see how the greater Mass / Volume of N2 being squeezed through the grooves, disperses the combustable O2 molecules better into the fuel,

Biggest load of crap in the opening paragraph. When there is anything mentioned about effecting anything at the molecular level by something as simple a a nick in the cyclinder head - alarm bells should be ringing (cue the creapy music)

Pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo is always the first sign of snake oil, "Ooh its got molecules in it, it must be good."

hehe, scientific mumbo jumbo.

like the sign a certain council erected to stop people swimming in the towns water supply shortly after the US detonated their first Hydrogen bomb that said "Danger No Swimming - Water contains Hydrogen"

here is the real Singh Grooves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9KTiILJWC8

i know lame joke repeated, but meh!
