Ok, I've have the starter fitted to the motor and just wondering what wires go where on the gemini one, I have 2 brown ones, + (pos) from the battery in and out to the starter, and one that looks to be yellow with a red stripe, all connected to the old solonoid.

I've done a search for this but couldn't find anything conclusive, and rather than fry my wiring I thought it might pay to ask..

Thanks

Mat

OK
all wires can stay, except the red/white `start' wire must be transferred onto the gemini solenoid on the motor, and the main starter lead from the Mini solenoid to starter needs to be put on top of the battery lead next to it.

Toolie,

Save your time with gemini starter, their are no advantages on a mini with a good altinator.

The lucas cranks out more torque then the gemini (I checked with GM) the only thing is the lucas one needs more amps and so a well charged battery will be the important thing

What he said ^^^
I would add that a decent sized battery helps too.
My Lucas spins the 1360 over fast, it's fed by a 550CCA Exide (suits petrol Landcruiser..) 8)

Thanks Guys.. It wasn't out of choice that the Gem one was fitted, my lucas crap itself, and it's much easier to track down the gemini one than to source another mini one, only cost $29. Got it wired up this morning. :D

hi guys, i've been reading up on what you guys have written and thought I'd give it a go. My sister has a 77 clubman 998cc stock standard and the starter has died. So i obtained a gemini one, followed all the directions, filed the holes, got the starter mounted, wired up as I interpreted it and now when I try to reconnect the battery terminals to the battery the starter starts winding over with the ignition in the lock position. Any ideas where I've gone wrong? The white /red stiped wire is now no connected to the mini solenoid but now the gemini one, the main starter-soleniod mini lead is now attached to the starter at one end, and the other post on the old mini soleniod at the other. is this where i've gone wrong and misinterpred the directions? any advice is greatly appreciated
Josh

I'd say you have connected the main battery lead to the wrong terminal on the starter.
here's how it should look-

Thanks doc. Does the red stiped wire go onto the post in the middle or the other large post opposite the main battery lead post?

Ok Doc... when i fit the pulsar dizzy do i need an ignition delay if i run with the lucas starter? or will a big battery compensate?

i was under the belief with the pulsar dizzy i would need the gemini starter or an ignition delay?

It all depends what advance you are running. My 1360 has well over 16 degrees static (due to head shape and cam), I get away with a Lucas starter only by having a kill switch on the coil feed, so I can spin it up then throw the ign on.
If you have a decent size battery and less than 10 degrees static advance, a stock switch and Lucas starter should be OK.
