100hp at the wheels is a big ask for a A series engine without forced induction.

I think you will find 100HP at the crank will make for a lively drive and abit more than this is all that you really want for a street car, esp if you plan to give it to your P Plating kids later on...

Put it this way, I've been in minis with more than 100hp atw and they are scary fast. "Dude you need a roll cage, harness and a helmet" scary.

IMO around 120hp crank is as much as you really want a mini to go without shitting your pants every day of the week.........

having 100hp atw without forced induction or a twincam head is impossible without race modifications which would make it undriveable on the street

and i agree, 100+hp atw is scary and really only belongs on the track

ok strat with 30/70 cam or bigger, corrolla rockers, larger valves and better springs, open up the ports in the haed - you don't have to go spastic - and put a 45 webber carb on it. Then you should get close to 100 atwhp. Dont forget the stated 75hp that a 1275 is suposed to have is at the crank, so when you take 30% away for power loss though the gearbox you end up with 50 atwhp. So therefore you are tring to build somthing that has 143hp at the crank.

You will need lots more than this to get 143 at crank. Most race Minis don't have this..

what is everybodys facination with Corrolla rockers?

i still have a set of modded Yella Terra ones that suited a geMINI, only needed a modded rocker shaft and they fit.
I imagine there wood be a lot of machining needed.

I got 89HP at the crank on 998 about 12 yrs ago but it's life expectancy was about 1 month.

Spec from memory:
0.086" oversize
0.140" machine from between head and block
14.5:1 CR
Needle roller cam
1.5:1 roller rockers
GSX1100 motorbike Mechanical injection
Honda Civic Distributor regraphed
billet crank & flywheel

Head was tubed
with angle seated valves, 2 piece push rods, positioned spark plugs
and a bootload other little tweaks.

was a good project that ended in 3 of us giggling on the floor of the workshop.

OK I may be a bit biased here as I've done around 9 sets now for ausmini people. I still make them (and now 1.3:1 offset bushed Mini ones) to order.

Anyhow...
1. They give 1.46:1 ratio with an RE13 cam or similar, compared to 1.16-1.21:1 with stock rockers (my measurements with same RE13 cam, block and head).
2. They are cheaper than MiniSpares 1.5:1 forged ones.
3. They last much longer than some UK supplied roller tip rockers I could mention, if correctly modified to fit.. but I have seen some dodgy ones done, too... :!:
4. They are/were easy to find, when the alternatives mentioned above were out of stock here, or UK were waiting for their supply boat from China/India/Bangladesh/wherever...

<edit> To see what is involved making the Corollas fit an A series, or making offset bushed Mini rockers, see the hi-lift rocker thread at top of this forum.

Perhaps stroking it and going max. overbore would be a good start, lightweight components, big valves with a big ported head, good extractors and a tuned hif44 with 98 octane fuel would get you close.

I've got 90 bhp @ wheels on my race car. The fact is it's cheaper to lighten a mini than it is to add horsepower after a while :)

I'd worry more about torque range if the car is going to be on the street. Chasing MAX hp will leave you with a peaky engine which isn't fun on the roads. Go for heaps of torque from 1500/2000 - 5000 and you will have a car that's heaps of fun on the road.

Simple answer - NO you cant get 100hp at the wheels with that combo for a STREET CAR that is drivable.
YES you can get 100hp at the wheels out of it, but it WONT be something you can drive on the road and not sure how long it will last.

For 100hp in N/A form you are looking at an all out and out racecar. Im talking $25k under the bonnet... and its built to sit on 8000rpm on a track. Under 3500rpm I dont think it would even move...

Answer this question (without caps lock)
What do you want out of the motor (100hp isnt really an answer)
For example,
I want something very quick
or
I want something that keeps up with traffic
or
I want to join the 100hp at the wheels club (dont care how drivable it is)

You can do lots of things, let us know WHAT you actually want and we can help.

Pete

build whatever motor you like and keep trying different dynos until you get one that gives 100hp

(psssst...)
Slip the dyno operator a slab... and tell him what number you want.
