I was told years ago it was possible to machine up a Holden Banjo LSD and fit it in a mini diff housing. Has anyone heard of this being possible, and was it worth the effort ?. Some extra traction on a tight hillclimb track would be good. |

This is something I've been wondering for a while, is their any other LSDs that will fit into a mini diff? |

Yes, this is possible. Len Read did the conversion here in Vic. The problem is you can't get spare parts for the Banjo any more, and most of them would be more or less stuffed. I've got a Salisbury in mine, but you can't get parts for them either. The Jan 2009 edition of the Mini Magazine had a good summary of whats available from England. Do a search in Ausmini for "Fred Sayer LSD" as he does a nice cheap alternative. |

Thanks Rookiepilot. I just happen to have a good banjo LSD sitting around for 15 years, ex Torana. As the Box is coming apart this week in search of the missing second gear syncro, post Phillip Island, it appears it might be worth taking some measurments. With your Salisbury, are the output shafts held in by circlips inside the output shaft bearing flanges ?. I can't think of any other way to hold them in place. |

You are correct. Here's a photo I pinched off the net. ![]() I'm not sure what Len used for output shafts but I would imagine it would be a similar setup. Mini spares list the output shafts http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=32692&title=OUTPUT%20SHAFT which fit the Salisbury, but I don't know if they fit the Banjo. I know the Banjo came in course and fine spline, but these output shafts would be closer to the Banjo course spline. BTW, the banjo I have is still in my Torana ![]() |
