Post subject:  12g202 head

hey guys

, picked up mynew 1100 motor and started having a look at it, to get it rebuilt for my turbo motor.

what can i do to a 202 head for a turbo set up?

i want to learn and do as much of the work as i can myself.

porting and polishing and that sort of thing, obviously it will need to be crack tested and skimmed? and hot tanked etc.

where should i start and where should i look for references, other than my home (here)!

cheers jamie

get it crack tested. I wouldn't worry about hot tanking it. Shave it last just in case you gouge the face of the head with you die grinder.

If you want fairly big chambers there's plenty of scope to make em bigger by De-shrouding the valves I reckon mine where around 28.5 cc when I finished.

Get the doc to turn down some 1100s valves for you and stick them in too.

Do the inlet ports as per vizard.

I would try and do as much as I could to the exhaust ports as I could with out messing with the valve guide boss to much. The boss transfers a fair bit of heat away from you valves, with a turbo its important.

Check to see how much has been shaved off the head, you want it as thick as you can.. Keeping gaskets in it with be hard enough as it is.

there's millions of other things to take into account.

I have just about finished my 2nd head now just need some valves.

How do you keep each chamber even?

once you have finished die grinding. cc them using a piece of perspex with a hole drilled in it, measure them with metho, oil etc. then grind out accordingly

Here's a 202 I did years ago for a 1220 Sprite motor.
It went better than the 295 he took off it. 8)

Before chamber polishing-
<edit> it got unleaded exhaust seats shrink fitted too.
valve sizes- 33mm inlet, 27mm exhaust (cut down 1275 ones).

I used a CD cover face with a hole in it and a big syringe from the chemist to measure the size.

should pull my spare 202 out and hit it with a dremel.

202 i have on car is pretty standard, new valves, guides and springs all unleaded suitable. Still runs nicely (when theres no other problems :( )

Hey Mad-MK1 if you need any professional head work done go visit T&W Engineering at St. Agnes. From my recent experience (for non-performance related work) I found them to be good quality, nice blokes and good value. However they were quite slow but they did move shop whilst my head was there and I did tell them i wasn't in a hurry....

Anyways, give them a ring, look the number up i nthe phone book, as I'm too lazy to do it for you.

I could bore you valve throats and shave it if you wanted.
