In the middle of rebuilding the 998 engine. Im trying to learn about compression ratio's and the so forth as i plan on dropping a turbo on to the sucker. Anyways, at this point i have it in pieces and when i get my hands on some spare money i am going to start modifying and putting it all back together. Because i don't know much about mini engines im looking for some guidance. Im not looking for something fuel efficient. Now seeming these don't have over head cams, are there any modifications that are possible besides changing profile. i.e. on the lancer you can change the SOHC to DOHC. I plan on doing a port and polish.. but what else? I will be getting new pistons and plausibly new conrods depending on the strength. Got some things i should look for? Cheers. |

First read everything that Benjamin posted about turbos on Ausmini. Keep researching compression ratios, you need know what you want before ordering pistons. You will need to do more than port'n'polish the head - if you want to run decent boost levels you will need to dish the combustion chamber a fair bit. |

If you are definitely going to turbo it I would start by fitting a 1098 crank and pistons. Why? A 998 with the C/R reduced to suit boosting will be a slug off boost. As others here have found. |

I have had a small quick chat with some other members and have decided that because the turbo will mostly be for show i will just run low levels of boost. Will read on the info Benjamin posted. Is that his username? |

Indeed it is his username. As per the Doc's suggestion, he used 998 block with 1100 crank to punch out 125.7hp at the wheels. You can learn a lot from his builds. |

Wikipedia is your friend. Try looking there for anything. Even reading about turbos on other cars is a good start. |

Please be sarcasm. The information on that website can be such rubbish at times, and considering im learning, probably not the best source. |

You are living on Mad Matt Reid's door step. Sent him a PM and go to his workshop. LOOK,LISTEN, ASK QUESTIONS and you will learn. He has a few turbo set-ups beside his twin cam engines |

since the turbo is for show, why not just leave the guts out of the motor and just take it wherever it's going on a trailer like the hot-rodders do. Plenty of rods win shows with engines that have never been run.... |

Plenty of rods win shows with engines that have never been run.... yeah you wouldnt want to mess up the car with petrol, oil and soot! |

i still want to have it as an occasional weekend driver. I don't see the point in building a car that can't be driven.. |
