Post subject: | MG MIDGET 5 Speed Conversion?? |
A friend from work is wishing to convert his midget to a 5 speed w/overdrive. Does anyone know what the easiest or most common conversion is? I know Dellow do a kit for the Celica T50 5 speed, is this the best / only option?? |

Once looked at a Sprite with a Celica 'box. I'm not sure how much foot room your supposed to expect with these cars but it made the Mini feel like a Rolls Royce in comparison. I'm pretty sure the firewall had been modded to make the 'box fit. Great mod I thought but no foot room, unless of course it's possible to do this without cutting into the foot space. |

Great mod I thought but no foot room, unless of course it's possible to do this without cutting into the foot space. nope, that's just normal for a midget... I'm 99% sure the box is the same size. It's a common Morris Minor mod to put a Celica or Corolla 5 speed. Later model (post Aus production) Minors used the same box as a Midget |

I'm not a big guy and I didn't fit in the car so if that's normal then oh well. |

6 foot 1", 84kg. Floor and seat has been lowered to fit head under roll bar, but apart from that there's plenty of room. ![]() The Celica box requires some cutting of the tunnel to fit. Use a Datsun 120Y (Nissan Sunny) 5-speed if you want to leave the tunnel intact. (Check out Morriservice or Rivergate in the USA for a complete kit.) |

Yeah my mate spoke of this conversion also. As the owner of a Datsun 1200 ute I know how painfully expensive and RARE an A-series datsun 5 speed is... About a grand for a 2nd hand one plus parts are hard to find for them. That's whay I'm putting a T50 celica box in my Datsun ![]() |
