just doing some sums trying to figure out my best power option for my dollar, ive always been keen on the bmw k1100 head conversion.. whats the average cost to build a fairly quick one of those engines.. and how much better is it to say, a well sorted 1380? i want to build a nice quick engine but just dont know whether spending the extra $$ on the k1100 conversion will be worth the gain in hp. im after over 100bhp (flywheel) but more so alot of torque for road driving

would also be interested in some turbo figures despite knowing it costs a bomb to set up a reliable turbo car..

A 1275 with a good 5 port head, good cam and all the right other bits should comfortably do 100hp.

was just about to start another thread into something like this...
from the Dyno on the weekend i was putting out 60HP at the wheels.
My current set up which is only 800KM's fresh is a 1275 bored out 20 thou, 1.5.1 toyota rockers, Stage 2 Head, lightened and balance flywheel,
single 1 3/4 SU, stroker kit, Hepolite pistons, RE13 Cam, LCB extractors, 1 3/4 exhaust system and blue dot clutch.

Now i want to aim for a 100Hp or more at the WHEELS..... will be a street car and would like plenty or tourque

TURBO?SUPERCHARGE?SOMETHING ELSE don't want to spend more than say 4-5K.

seeing the turbo mini's on the dyno pushing out big numbers has given me the itch! as well as going for a spin in stalet conversion

For 100 at the wheels you will need something special. The TOP TOP road 1275's with struggle to hit 90 at the wheels. Turbo, supercharge, 7/8 port, twin cam.

Turbo, Supercharger, 7/8port, twin cam should all be able to get over 100HP at the wheels..especially TOP TOP ones.

The K-series head can make power but you'll struggle N/A especially for torque. If putting one on it's best to Turbo.

i'd recommend a well sorted 1380 or such like, cheap, easy to build and reliable.

dont worry about making 100 bananas.

After going for a run in your car i'm REALLY leaning towards TURBO

BUT i need to consider the reliabilty factor or boosting up a mini engine...

get a 7 port will work well with everything you already have and will make over your 100 horsies at the wheels NA.

The minisport ones mount webers direct to the head, BUT GR says they have too big a port size (read the elder 7 port thread)... The Elder one that GR sells would stick a fair way out I reckon, especially using the manifold. Unless you went fuel injected or used bike carbs I don't think it would fit under the bonnet, you would struggle with webers (I've been thinking about this a lot :? ). Have a look on youtube at the 7 port Minis and it's a pretty tight fit when they bolt straight to the head, they're a pretty big carb, sound AWESOME though twin webers on a Mini.

1380 with a well sorted head, weber/dellorto and extractors will get you close if not on the money but if you want to do it a bit easier a crossflow head of sorts will help, as will sequential fuel injection with the crossflow.
Dollar wise .... how long is a piece of string :)
