from the Dyno on the weekend i was putting out 60HP at the wheels.
My current set up which is only 800KM's fresh is a 1275 bored out 20 thou, 1.5.1 toyota rockers, Stage 2 Head, lightened and balance flywheel,
single 1 3/4 SU, stroker kit, Hepolite pistons, RE13 Cam, LCB extractors, 1 3/4 exhaust system and blue dot clutch.

Now i want to aim for a 100Hp or more at the WHEELS..... will be a street car and would like plenty or tourque

TURBO?SUPERCHARGE?SOMETHING ELSE don't want to spend more than say 4-5K.

seeing the turbo mini's on the dyno pushing out big numbers has given me the itch! as well as going for a spin in a starlet conversion

I'd say Supercharger if your after torque. I'm not saying SC will give more torque over a Turbo just it's more progressive so the power delivery will be kind of similar IMO. I'd look at an SC12 or SC14 plus you'll have to find out your compression ratio and either add a decompression plate or dish out the combustion chambers in the head.

It may also pay to swap your cam for a RE13 T , it's designed for turbo ed engines but will suit a SC just as well.

you're setup sounds great. i advise not to change it :)

but if you absolutely must have 100hp to impress your mates...

the sc-12 kit is minimal in cost but requires some mechanical know how and dyno time.
you can use your existing 1 3/4 SU.

you will need to change the re-13 because it will not work with a boosted engine. i am running the re-13T in mine, but there are other options out there.

i'd go up to a 2" exhaust system also.

you want to lower the compression, if you're motor is that fresh its easier to have a decomp plate made up, i never had any issues with mine, but you will need the extra stud/bolt in the head.

mine makes this with a standard head, with a standard stroke.

you shouldnt have any trouble.

I am thinking that setup should be good for about 100 at the crank, I doubt you are losing 40 through the transmission. Maybe something isn't quite right

Although monetarily this is achievable, the problem with 100hp atw is that you will realise quickly everything other thing on the car that is far inadequate for this much power output. For instance the need for a LSD, electric thermo fan, tyres etc. It basically all adds up to more money...

Our 1100 Turbos were making (are making) around 130hp at the wheels.
4-5k will get you started... unless you find bargains.

My suggestion is still turbo - I DONT want to start the SC vs TURBO debate in this thread - but ill make my point - I still have not seen the SC setups making big power for the same $$

I suggest if you want 100hp at the treads, then call Graham, get some pistons that wont break, and start setting up the turbo install. $5k WILL do it... but there are a few things needed that add up.

Chong is right, you make the power then you need to 1. Make it reliably and 2. Get it to the ground. So things like valves, pistons, rockers, gearbox bits for reliability and then LSD, tyres, etc for getting it to the ground...

Then you start making 100 and want more, then you make 110 and want more, then you make 120... and so on lol

Cheers,
Pete

This is what we had in our Mk II S. Was really lovely to drive with plenty of power.

Engine - 1330 with Hepolite pistons & rings 60 thou oversize, Kent 731 cam, Kent Vernier timing gear, lightened and balanced, centre main bearing cap, shortened S rods to reduce compression ratio 7:1.

Head - Gas-flowed, ported and polished Mk 2 with Kent springs, bronze valve guides, Rimflo valves, lightened 1.5:1 high lift rocker arms.

G/box - Standard MkII Cooper S, standard clutch plate with heavy duty diaphragm, 3.05:1 diff ratio.

Fuelling - Hi volume solid state electric fuel pump, single 1.75 inch SU carby with water cooled Garret T2 turbo charger running 9psi boost, home-made inlet manifold.

Exhaust - Home-made exhaust manifold and 2.5 inch system with single silencer and centre tailpipe exit.

Ignition - Lumenition electronic ignition, Bosch GT40 coil, 8mm silicon leads, NGK plugs.

Cooling - Hi-volume water pump, 4 core radiator, 13 row oil cooler.

115hp.

Preferably a new(ish) one. On some older, thrashed out ones I have come to frown upon you get none of the above.
