I've got a Metro turbo engine complete and running, should i keep the turbo set up or switch to the 45mm side draught webber i've got? It's for my clubman that won't be a daily driver.

NA Weber (or Dellorto) fed motors just keep going. 8)

Many modified turbo motors here on ausmini don't- I could name one that has now busted 3 gearboxes, and another that has trashed the clutch assembly big time and now damaged the motors insides. But, I won't.

How much power do you want/need...

If you keep it stock (93HP at crank) it'll last pretty well, trouble is turbo guys want more boost, then more boost, then more ..... then BANG!!

if you take the turbo off, you'll just put it back on again two days later.

if you're worried about reliability issues, you've already got the turbo set up, is there a problem with it? just dont increase the boost is all.

Keep the turbo and don't muck around with the motor after that, simple. It's a factory job so it should be very reliable.

A full webber based build will produce a scary fast mini that is absolutely reliable, i can attest to that. Turbos do produce more power but they are "deadly fast" and I don't mean the metaphor version of deadly. I just think there's a limit to how much power you want on a tiny front wheel drive car...

Then there's the issue of money...

The 93HP at crank they got from the Metro turbo motor is pretty tame, really.
These days, your average 1275 engine rebuild exceeds that easily.
Gerg's 1360 made 102HP at crank (engine dyno) with just a single 1.75" SU, an RE13 cam, my 1.3 rockers and a stock 1100S head.

Webber all the way, I love turbos but personally believe they belong in rear rwd cars (but im sure one day I will be convinced otherwise)

Remember that the engine only has a 9.4:1 compression ratio.
Stick with the turbo, you'll be disappointed with the results with the weber

5 Weber anyday if you're using it regularly and want reliability. I ran one on my 1310 S for years as a daily driver without any major issues at all - and the sound put a lot of V8s to shame...
