Hi All Wanting some feedback on the American Racer tyres. Thoughts on them 
Wear
What suspension set up you are using
What rims are you using ( I have a good supply of original 10" x ??5 1/2"?? contessas that I am hoping to use)
Currently using Dunlop Formula R on my Nc Mini and want something that is a similar price but a little stickier. Car is really only used for street sprinting, hill climbing and regularity.... Thanks Minimad |

We got forced to run them on the formula VEE, they were shocking the tread wear was bad, the grip was bad, they didnt hold pressure. They were introduced as a compulsory item for the whole series, this has now been reversed and the original dunlops have been brought back. If anyone else has had different experiences please post them but this is what we experienced on the formula vee which has less weight (450kg with driver) and probably similar power ( approx 65 -70hp). In conclusion....DUNLOP were better on all points for us. |

At our national race meet middle of the year one racer was using them and complained that they had too much grip and was lapping slower due to this (I still have isses with that statement). I spent most of my time sliding around due to tyres that had gone bad - I should have swapped him. |

Im of the understanding that you can get them in 2 compunds and both have different qualities...... Im yet to use or try them as most people seam to try them and return back to the Hoosier TD. It may be possible that the cars set up may need to be changed to suit the tyre !... PG |

My friend has used them a few times (nb race car). He was very happy with them (was using Hoosiers previously). I think they come in 3 compounds - from super soft to ...? I don't know if they have fixed this with their recently updated tyres but you did have to be carefull with differences with tyre circumference (which can't be checked until fitted) My friend put his rears on the front and the car was a nightmare because one tyre was larger than the other 
They're pretty cheap though. |

What TSpeed said.... ( I was there as the drama unfolded) The difference was something like 20mm - causing major pull to one side and subsequent handling dramas.... others have had the same issue. Quite bizarre. However he and Dave Wheatley, who also uses them are up the pointy end of the Nb mini guys.... Like the Hoosier are a cross ply not radial - and I understand need near zero camber at the front end.... (I haven't used but we had much discussion in the "paddock" ) On a Nc with wheel arches should be no worries - on Nb pushing the boundary of being acceptable as stick out a bit... |

If you get them then have them fitted by the same people and check them to make sure - If they are not right get them to try another tyre. |

if the original question was about which tires are used on racing Minis in the U.S., the answer is that for Vintage racing with a 10 inch wheel, they run the Hoosier TD tire and tread pattern shown on this webpage. These tires are typically run on 10x6 rims. https://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm these 10 inch Hoosiers have more grip than most treaded 10 inch tires used for Mini racing in England. They also run on wider rims. Space frame Minis and others which race with SCCA are usually on 13 inch slick tires with lots of grip. if the original poster's question was about Mini racing tires used in the U.S., for Vintage racing they run Hoosier TD tires and the tread type as listed in this webpage https://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm and click on "Specs" The Hoosiers are usually run on 6 inch rims. These tires are wider and have more grip than most treaded Mini 10 inch race tires used on Minis in England. Thanks for the feedback. Heard from the Australian supplier today, and the harder compound is currently sold out but a new tyre is on the way.... Might put my name down for a set

Apparently OK as the wheel is still in the correct spot under the 'arch. That was the story at Muscle Car Masters anyway. |

Mate, Kumho Powerstars is what you wanna get your hands on. Great tyre, holds well; don't get hot and go 'off' too quickly, very precise response through the steering. Good value too. |

super mini, in the U.S. nobody uses the Hoosier TD tires for only one race. Even the fronts are good for more than one race. At least two races for sure, and maybe more depending. |

The word is the American racer tyres wear more slowly than the Hoosier. (but if you were ultra serious then I'm told it's the heat cycles rather than wear than will affect the tyres performance most - we'll avoid that can of worms) And Yes - A032R wears less again - and what I am using for my Nb car. Good in wet and dry and can get most of a "season" out of them. (Though I am very tempted to try some Dunlop R7 in the wet - same compound as the Formula R I'm told) But I am still a Learner (just got off my Race "P"s after last race - woo hoo ) trying to build consistency and race craft over outright placing.. main aim having fun which I am having in bucket loads
