Matt, you know (I hope) that you have my respect, however after looking at your links, could I respectfully suggest that you stick to the spanner work and stay away from video cameras

Crap images but what the images are of make up for it.

I replied in your other thread- I used to run twin 1-3/16" Amal Monoblocs on mine back in the 60s.

Hi Doc,

I have only ever encountered these carbies on BSA's, and they seemed to do the trick... never tried them on a mini though, always been curious. Without wanting to sound rude, they look a little "achaic" next to an SU...(but I am saying that not having used one,, I'm just saying that looking at the design) Did you find that they yelded any advantage? Are they a horses for courses carby that work well in a particular aplication? How did you find them?

Thanks. :)

They outperformed twin HS2s, were about as good as split Webers, on a small motor. Mine was a 1058 (+.030" 997 motor with a 1098 crank).

Nobody ran 1275s back then, except the rich people who could afford an S.

They were fine on the road, except when taking off. See other thread.

Amals were fitted to just about all pommy bikes,AJS,Triumph, Matchless, Ariel etc, etc. The ariel square 4 had a pair of 1 1/2" carbs and I ran some on my "S". As Doc said, fuel levels were tricky to set-up but they worked well.
The amal carbys were copied by the japs [like most things] and they came up with the kei-hin CR carbys,[slide throttle] but the japs improved on the design, like most things.
There is a honda civic [imported model around mid 80's] that had twin mikuni slide throttle carbs fitted. If you can find a set and are willing to take the time tuneing them, they are a good carby.
The latest bike stuff, kei-hin CV carbys are very good and I have found that they are a lot better ,both performance and economy that SU's.
4 are better than 2 :D

A mate of mine purchased a new Ardon crossflow head & 4 Amals from minispares years ago, they worked ok but were a bit small so we struggled to get top end power, 2 Webers fixed that.

Post subject:  Motorcycle carbs on ken elder 7 port

Sorry - i should have been more specific......

Am looking at using motorcycyle carbs on a crossflow head (namely the ken elder 7 port just released). If somebondy has used them on ken's 8 port head they should be compatible with the 7 port.

Wanted to know which ones would be suitable so that no modifications are necessary to the roundnose bonnet.

I.e i think amals will fit under the bonnet but am unsure if you can use air filters.

If air filters cannot be used does anyone know of at other motorcycle carbs that will fit undet the bonnet and allow fitment (after making a custom filter box i guess) of air filters.

Regards

with most of the 7or 8 port heads carbys are are problem clearing the bonnet.
I have been able to just clear [apart from a little mod to the frame] quad kei-hins on the honda head using weber air fliters. The bike head does not have a long manifold and the carbys are a lot shorter than webers or amals.

I would go for these type of carby as they are easily adapted to inlet port center distance. A air box would definately give you more room

O.K. i might be stating the obvious but why stuff around with carbys when you could just put injection on ?
then you will get better fuel consumption and good power ?

Here's an injected one that Dean Canto & GR prepared earlier...
I doubt it would fit under a roundy bonnet though!
Hence why this pickup has a Clubby front.
