what happens if you get bored with all the non-mini parts you collect over the time? something like this ![]() ![]() ![]() some clearing issues with the dizzy and the oil pipe, but on the right track, i think |

Go megajolt and you can ditch the dizzy. ![]() How did you fabricate drive off the back of the alternator? Is it gear driven or direct drive? |

if theres a gears in there that will work awesome |

I think there would have to be to get the turbo to spin quick enough to generate any positive boost pressure. |

Thats lookin pretty cool KLAS, i like the drive block. I'm guessing it reverses the direction of rotation too ![]() I've been thinking of something similar but belt driven a bit slower with a bigger compressor like off a truck. Interested to watch the progress ![]() |

that is awesome!!!! is that a oil drive pump alt off a diesel?? or simillar? |

yes its an alternator form a diesel, normally driving a vacuum pump (1.7l diesel from Opel). it's gear driven to revers the direction and to turn it faster. its geared 3.333 to the alternator (only found 40 and 12 teeth gears). and with the alt running twice as fast as the engine it should be fast enough for testing. the compressor side is out of a 1.6l VW turbo diesel. BTW its the 3rd version. the first was belt driven, but no belt i could find would last. the 2nd was allready geardriven but due to cheap materials it was eating the gears faster than it could build up some boost @ Asphalt: its nearly done ![]() and than fit it to my car |

Given that the compressor is not being driven by the exhaust does that mitigate the raised air/engine bay temps? Or correctly worded sentence - does it negate the need to intercool the charged air given it shouldn't be hot? |

when air is compressed it heats up so it will still get hotter air out then what goes in |

The relatively low levels of boost used with superchargers means they can normally get away without th need for intercoolers, as the intake temperatures stay within reasonable limits. Remember that the factory turbo A series did not use an intercooler either. |

yes, it all depends on air temperature. as i'm usind EFI it will be easy to tell if an intercooler would be of any help |

well done Klas,,, that`s a start hey? ![]() but i wonder how much belt slip you will get,,, maybe a toothed drive system may be better yeah? keep it up bro,,, it might be worth it if it can get heaps of rpms without too much belt slip |

i hope i won't need a toothed belt as i would have to buy parts for that ![]() but i have all pulleys from a MPi and hope this multi V belt will slip less that the normal belt. i have found a map for this compressor, it starts from 40.000 RPM. thats what i can reach around 6.000 RPM at the crank and no slipping belt. hope its enough. otherwise i will need to speed it up or find a bigger one ![]() |
