Ok, so my supercharged morris 1100 (1275cc) project is nearing completion, Except an hour of driving had my temp gauge up the top end, the oil light flickering, and water coming out of the overflow tank.. I stopped for a while then:P So I need more cooling.. I'm thinking a second radiator mounted in the front grille? what's the harm in having two standard radiators in there? any problem? Cheers, James |

lol.. as much as I'm sure that would do the trick, I think I might not bother:P |

I don't know what would be best suited to your engine or budget, but here's some ideas to get you started: Thermofan Alloy radiator (or a good one if you have a chinese UK 3 core) Extra heater core behind the grille, much easier to install than a full radiator. |

my budget is pretty low now, I hadnt counted on problems after the cost of the kit and tune.. I'll look into a heater core.. I wonder what one of those would cost from upullit.. or one of those long skinny alloy radiators from a modern car. I have the stock morris 1100 radiator in there.. it could be half blocked I dunno, It ran cool as anything before I put the blower in though. I'm really not that keen on taking out the radiator again, it wasnt that much fun to put back in with the supercharger in.. adding an extra one is preferred.. anything can be done if it has to be though. I'm thinking an extra radiator of some kind (heater core or otherwise) with a thermal fan attached to it in the front grille. from memory theres plenty of room behind the front grille in a morris 1100, I remember thinking the sc kit would have been so much easier if they'd made the car with the engine at the front of the engine bay instead of the back.. theres actually less room down the back of the motor in an 1100 than there is in a mini.. the extractors were a bit of a nightmare too. |

this is not on a mini yea? dont know much about 1100's but upgrading the radiator to a proper minispares 2 or 4 core will do the trick. on my s/c 1360 i ran only a thermo fan on a 2 core and it worked fine. since then for reliability i've ditched the thermo and got a mechanical fan back, and a heater core in the front grille. no probs i think you'll find the boost will show any weak areas of your mechanicals. |

How certain are you that it is tuned right and not running too lean ? It just seems odd that it was running cool previously but now overheating with the blower on (even allowing for more heat from the extra load/power from the blower) . |

Heater core from a Clubby fits in nice behind the grille of a roundy. Pipe it from back of the head to the bottom hose, and you will see a dramatic improvement on hot days. 2 reasons: extra water in system, additional core area. |

yeah it's not a mini, it's a morris 1100.. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z234 ... 008302.jpg still the same mechanicals though. I have no idea if it's tuned correctly.. I paid for it to be tuned on a dyno though so it should be.. if I use the heater connecton on the head, how do I plumb it so my heater will still work? |

If it is a Morris 1100, so any discussion about fitting Mini alloy or pommy 2, 3 or 4 core radiators is useless. ![]() The stock Morris 1100 is bigger and better than any Mini radiator. If you want to improve the cooling in a Morris 1100 the first thing to do is get the radiator cleaned out properly. If you are running the stock Australian Morris 1100 heater it is always in circulation, there is no tap to turn the water off. So if the car is running hot try turning on the heater flap and see if the motor runs any cooler. (you may need to open both quarter windows! If you want to add an extra heater core just run a hose from the heater hose outlet on the end of the head to the heater core and hook the hose that used to run to the end of the head to the other side of the extra heater core. |

I have the same problem, car ran fine until the SC went on, basically undrivable with overheating. Had the heater core installed but all that did was delay the time it took to overheat. Same deal I paid to get it tuned properly (so hoping it was, though wasnt done on a dyno). I decided to buy a metro turbo engine and box (currently being recoed) so hope once I fit that with the SC I should have no more overheating problems. I had a brand new 4 core radiator fitted, complete overhaul of the cooling system and still would overheat. I didnt find out about the clubby extra radiator idea until after I had pulled the SC off. If the new engine overheats I will put the heater core and second radiator in. If it still overheats keep an eye on the 4 sale section cause thats where the car will be. |

hmm thats not too reassuring.. I'm thinking I might try to richen it up a touch, might run a bit cooler even if a little less powerful, no point going fast if it overheats, it's still one of my daily drivers. I'm not going to open the heater flap on a hot day in a car with a vinyl interior.. I may aswel not drive it. |

sounds to me like you`ve blown a head gasket we have both a super-charged mini & a turbo injected twin cam 16v & both run stock-ish rads (ok one is stock mini & one is alloy jobby but both run perfect temp when driven hard for hours soooooo,,,, seems to me that you`d be best off looking for the "real" problem instead of trying to just cover up the symptom just trying to help,,, i have no idea of the condition of your car,,, but my guess is that you`ve blown your headgasket (at least) &/or your rad is blocked-ish |

it doesnt show any other symptoms of a blown head gasket, I dont think that's the problem. you might be right about the radiator though, I was jut dreading taking it out again, so I didnt want to think about it. is it possible to unblock one without removing it from the car? |

It is best to remove the radiator and take to a radiator shop that will remove the top or bottom (or both) tanks and rod the tubes. Need to start with a good condition cooling system. The block should be flushed thoroughly as well, inc heater. Another thing, what sort of water pump are you running? The one you need is the one with the deep cast impeller, not one with a pressed steel impeller. If you have one of those, keep it for a present to give to one of your emenies ![]() |
