Hi All!

I'm putting a Morris 1100S 1275 into my Mini in the christmas holidays and wondered if you helpful lot could help out with SU needle selection and engine improving ideas.

The motor that I will be installing is a 1100S 1275 virgin block that was very recently rebuilt.
All standard specs, apart from reground crank and bearings. Still has original pistons on original bore, but with new rings.
Everything checked out and as motor had only 50,000 miles from new,the bore was only in need of a hone.
Motor is currently still attached to original 3 syncro unit but will be receiving a 4 syncro Mini K unit.

So far the engine will be receiving the following:

HS6 K&N cone filter
1&3/4" HS6 carby
Minispares water heated inlet manifold
Maniflow 1&3/4 LCB
1&3/4" Sports system with single box
Aldon Sports Distributor
3.1 diff

Can anybody help out with needle selection for it?
The HS6 that's going on was from a Austin 1800 and has the SL needle still in it.

Can anyone suggest a few inprovements on my my list?
Car is not a daily drive but a fun occasional use car that see's hills, twisty stuff and long 100km/h straights.

Not too fussed about head mods (could be persuaded though!) but thought maybe a cam change could help it.

What do you think?

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Regards, Lindsay

The Compression Ratio in these - stock - is only 8.8:1, they go kinda OK as a result, however if you push the CR up to around 10.5:1 and do nothing else, it will go a hell of a lot better. Transform it from a slug to something that goes and will be fun.

Best way to do it is to replace the pistons with Cooper S or Metro ones.

A cam will help your motor breath, i would reccomend a russell engineering RE13 cam, and you should consider some head work there is lots of torque to be had from a good flowing head. another area that helps is getting your flywheel lightened, I have done quite a few standard ones, you can easily remove 1kg which makes a remarkable difference to your acceleration.

good luck

RE83 is the number.
IMO an RE13 will be fine in a 1275 with a 3.1 diff, just don't use 1.5 rockers with it.
