I have a 1293 running twin 1.5" SUs, perry extractors into 1 3/4" pipe. Yet, it still does not have that raunchy Cooper S bark. What pipes and mufflers are people running to get the nice crisp, crackle? crappy example here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjLHjYmSVwU |

Change the Perry's to maniflo medium bore LCBs. Make sure the muffler is a Lukey or similar straight through muffler, no baffles (pick it up, look through it, if you can't see daylight on the otherside, pick another one. What you want is 1 3/4 inch diameter all the way through the muffler). That should give you what you're wanting to hear ![]() If that's not up to your standards then you need head porting, intake manifold porting for more ponies. More ponies, more noise. I have gone the other way, trying to make her quieter. Have spent lots doing so without hurting performance. So far so good... |

I'd stick to 1 3/4" I had a stainless system from extractors back (can't remember what extractors were on it, if they were stainless or not). Engine was 1360, weber carb. The bark that that thing made going through tunnels was amazing. |

Not if you own a race car. 1 ¾ is plenty for a road car. Have a listen to a car with a ST/S exhaust. I think they sound too tinny and much prefer a deeper note from a mild steel one IMO. |

Stainless? makes no difference to performance... 1 3/4 vs 2" depends on your level of tune. I put my 1330 on GR's engine dyno and it made 113bhp on 1 3/4 and 120bhp on 2" so I went with 2". It is much louder though but I have installed a straight through hotdog betweent he engine and the muffler to turn it into a twin box sytem. 1293cc, unless it has had extensive porting work and makes 100ft/lb+ I'd stick with 1 3/4" |

crappy example here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjLHjYmSVwU It's already got an RC40 single box muffler I fitted, and the system is all 1-3/4". As said I'd just toss the Perry 3-1 (Gafmo might buy it) and fit a medium bore LCB. re the pipe size I put my 1412 stroker on GR's dyno and with 1-7/8 pipe, it made 114HP and 112 ft/lb torque (single HS6 SU). We tried 2"pipe and it was less, tried 1-3/4 and it was less. (couple of HP for each) It all depends on the state of tune. 1-3/4" pipe is plenty for your 1293, it's got a less hairy spec than lillee's 1330.. ![]() |

Cooper's car (which was my wife's) had a Lukey muffler on when we bought it. The PO had fitted it backwards to make more noise, it had a real bark. Unfortunately, it had no bite... ![]() I reckon we gained 5HP when I tossed it and fitted the RC40. ![]() |

I'd say the perry's will be for sale shortly. Any recommendations on where to buy medium bore LCBs? ER |
