Post subject:  MG Metro Engine Cam

Does anyone have any experience with the MG Metro Engine, is the uprated Cam any good for forced induction? What size exhaust should I run on this a 1 3/4, 1 7/8" or 2".

I'm heading down the SC14 supercharger route and considering a thick copper head gasket to decompress, any tips?

Ah,,, maybe you should speak with Graham Russel about his 'forced-induction" (RE13T) cam,,, i believe it has less over-lap (among other favourable attributes) to help utilise the boost factor than most other std-ish cams

but otherwise,,, if you just wanted to know if the MG Metro cam will "work" in a turbo or supercharged engine???,,, well yes it will work, just that a cam which is designed & produced specifically "FOR" forced induction engines would work better (usually)

Not sure if you guys realise that there is the (factory) MG Metro Cam and these is also the (factory) MG Metro Turbo Cam. They are quite different.

The MG Cam being the wildest cam (wow....yawn...) fitted to a factory engine and the MG Turbo Cam is 'between' a MKI and MII Cooper S.

Metro turbo = WOW, a whole 94HP. Big deal, you can get more than that easily these days with 1 carby and no hairdryer.

Post subject:  Thx Guys

Guys thx. Was aware of the Turbo version, I am interested in real life applications of the ATMO version. I'm ok with forced induction using the "forced" to fill the cylinder and not large lobe overlap to scavange + reversion fill.

Anyone had experience with this cam in a forced state? I guess (with out doing the calcs) I'll need some overlap to reduce the dynamic fill to keep down the real CR. Again any body been there done that?

I guess the factory tries to build cars including the Metro ERA to be capable in all conditions with wide variations of fuel and last some acceptable time so limit the output. I will be building a hot brick like most of us and can accept and tailor the car to my needs and conditions. I don't intend to limit myself to 94hp but understand the factory position.

but not bad for an engine with a 60HP cam and only 7PSI boost

the MG cam is a nice upgrade for the Metro turbo, but only if you own one. if you have to buy one, there are better ones out there today
