hey guys just looking for a starting point or some advice on choosing a needle for my current set up.

i have a HS4 carb with the standard needle that comes with the rebuild kit.
since then i have done the following changes:

rc40 twin can
maniflow 3-1 extractors
minispares water heated inlet manifold
worked 202 head
1.5 rockers
ramflow air filter

stock cam, pistons and crank for now

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers, Matt

awesome will do, whilst out needle shopping what would you recommend with the following mods? as i plan to do the rest of the engine in the next 6 weeks.

mild cam to suit (any suggestions?), 20tho flat tops, lightened flywheel and crank.
all fully balanced?

cheers, Matt

I would still stay with the no 7 needle initially.
Then either borrow a portable wideband A/F meter and go for a drive under load, or preferably put it on a dyno, to get the mixture right.

As for cams, it all depends what engine characteristics you want. The one Mick just put in his 997/8 Cooper (RE83) would be my pick for a torquey road cam.

yeah, i live 5 mins away from mick and he has been an invaluable resource  he also recommended the re83, so i think that will be the go.
i will get it on a dyno after the engine has been rebuilt to get it tuned properly.

With my new motor, I've cut the commute down to 4 minutes.
